10 Cent Beer Night

In the "what the hell were they thinking" department. From the JS:

June 18, 1971:

The Milwaukee Brewers hosted their first 10-Cent Beer Night at County Stadium, before 27,472 thirsty fans (rain throughout the day kept attendance below the predicted 40,000). The Milwaukee Journal reported that fights broke out in all parts of the stadium, amid a number of drinking-related feats (one man ordered 130 beers, and he and his buddies finished them by the sixth inning). The Brewers lost to the Oakland A's, 6-2.

From what I can find the regular price for a beer at that time was around 65 cents.

Other teams did it too, I know the Indians had a big brawl at one of theirs. I think some teams even had nickel beer nights.

I had the same initial reaction as RS. But then I started thinkin...

$0.65 in 1971, when adjusted for inflation, is about $3.84 now. I don't drink, so I'm not sure how much a basic beer is now at MP, but I know soda costs more than that, so I think think beers must, too. Let's say $6?

With an equivalent ~84.5% discount, that would be about $0.94 a beer in 2016 terms.

Let's round it up to a dollar. I know some minor league ballparks have $1 beer nights and all-you-can-drink specials (holla at the Madison Mallards), and I don't see the type of debauchery that was at County Stadium in 1971. Still not a good idea for a variety of reasons, but not as unlikely as you think.
