Who do you want the Braves to take at #3?...... Poll

Post#1 » by Nemesis21 » Sat Jun 4, 2016 10:56 pm

I'm torn between Groome and Ray. If Groome falls past the first two picks, it's a no brainier for the Braves to take him right? But we did just stock up on pitching prospects, the Braves could use a college bat who could move along the Minors quickly, to go along with Swanson.

I voted Ray, but would be happy with either Ray or Groome.

Went Kyle Lewis. Don't underestimate Coppy taking another pitcher though. Pitchers are the most valued currency in the game of baseball, pitching wins playoff games (as we saw with the 90's Braves against teams like the Astros, Indians, and Phillies).

AJ Puk is the consensus number 1 selection. I went with the College bat out of the Braves' backyard here in Georgia. I won't be mad to see them take Groome, but we need to beef up our offense in the minors, we already have two projected top of the rotation lefties in Allord and Newcomb.

I like Ray and Lewis, but prefer Ray.

I gotta go with Ray. He looks so much like a young left-handed version of Ron Gant.

I would definitely not complain about getting Lewis. We need power, and he's the highest rated power hitter in the draft. Quick bat, improved pitch selection, a college player so we shouldn't have to wait too many years for him to develop. Ray or Lewis should be the pick. No pitcher please.

We'll find out shortly after 7 PM!

Ray, we need a bat. I've read that Ray is the biggest power-speed guy in the draft and some scouts are worried about all that goes on in Lewis swing and the competition he faced at Mercer. Also wouldn't be mad if they took Groome.

LOL, I assumed they'd pick a college OFer, and they pick a HS pitcher. Oh well, I guess they know better than we do. He does seem like a great prospect. 18 year old with a 93 MPH fastball that touches 97 and has excellent movement. And he's very projectable - he's skinny now and expected to add a lot of weight in the next few years - which usually means his fastball will get faster. We'll see.

He could be a solid guy for us or a solid trade chip for a bat. It is always easy to trade upside young pitchers to grab a hitter.

I must admit that I have very little knowledge regarding the prospects in the draft.
However, here is.....
5) Brewers: Corey Ray, OF, University of Louisville: Hailing from the Chicago area, Ray had an outstanding season for Louisville, hitting .319/.396/.562 with 15 homers and 44 steals this year, with 35 walks and 39 strikeouts in 260 at-bats. He has broad physical tools including speed and power. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/6/9/11898506/2016-mlb-draft-day-one

It appears that we passed on a hell of a talent.

with pick 40 we get another HS pitcher Joey Wentz at 40, has a good bit of hitting power for a pitcher. and at 44 we get another HS pitcher Kyle Muller, he also has some power hitting for a P.

i guess we are gonna have an all pitcher lineup

Ya know what - I respect going for the BPA, and clearly the Braves didn't go for specific needs. Otherwise, they'd have picked some bats. And I respect that they had the guts to pick HSers - showing they have faith in their scouts and not just picking college guys who seem close to being ready but just have average ceilings. I was hoping for bats, but I'm impressed with their sticking to their guns on taking the BPA. In the long run, this is the right thing to do.

Braves take Pac 12 POY catcher Brett Cumberland with the 76th pick - which they got from Baltimore in the Matusz trade. He's a power hitter and could advance quickly through the system. This pick definitely fills a need in the system.

I really wanted Ray. If you're going for a HS arm, why not Groome?
