This was a tough one.

Marquis Daniels... #4, #7 and #8

Wow. I guess he liked the low numbers.

What caused the changes?

Players to start with include:

Cousy (although I'm not sure whether it was real or just aspirational)
Heinsohn
Cowens

Jobs to start with include:

Actor (NOT portraying an athlete, although if you want to separately list the numerous Celtics who have portrayed hoopsters, please have at it)

If i remember correctly...Cowens was a taxi driver and Heinsohn was painter and insurance sailsman...

As a actor...Cousy was in "Blue Chips"...Bird in "Space Jam", "Celtics pride" and "Blue Chips", Allen in "He got game", Shaq in "Blue chips", "Kazaam" and "Steel"... Bill Russell stared in one episode of "Miami Vice" and off course immortal Chuck "The Rifleman" Cooper

Except for Cousy, you got everything I was thinking of. If you don't know the Cousy story, check his Wikipedia article; you may be amused.

Well, there also was McHale playing himself on Cheers. That was pretty cool.

Cowens drove a taxi for a bit didn't he?

Yep! He suddenly left the team to do so.

He wore #6 in Dallas and Indiana. When he came to Celtics, #6 was retired so he choose #7 in 2009.
Next season he took #8 so that Jermaine O'Neal could wear his #7. In february 2011. he was traded to Kings, but in december 2011. he signed as free agent for Boston. Jermaine O'Neal had #7, Jeff Green #8...so he choose #4

viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1451007 is a thread about guys who lost a lot in the Finals. So far, we've identified 3 guys who lost with 3 different teams each. In 2 of the 3 cases, one of the 3 teams was the Celtics.

Davor may want to see if he can guess who the guys were. Other folks might want to just check the linked thread. )

Toughie, we haven't lost many finals. 58, 85, 87, 2010 right? Sheed, Finley lost with Pistons and I think Mavs, not Portland or Phoenix or San Antonio. DJ lost with us and Seattle, not Phoenix. Oh I just realized one current major figure who lost with 2 of those clubs. Trying to think of the other...did Perk make the finals with Cleveland and OkC?

Sheed lost with the Pistons, but I think the Mavs dumped Finley the year before their Finals-losing appearance.

Yeah Perk did lose the finals in both 2012 and last year

Perk lost '10 with C's, '12 with Thunder and '15 with Cavs...

Third guy...let me see...Wilt lost with Warriors and Lakers but never lost a final as a Sixer...Sheed lost as a Celtic and Piston...never went to finals with Blazers...

I give up...i know only Danny and Perk...

Hint: He was an 8-time all-star in the 1950s.

Despite that track record, I must confess to not having recognized his name when it came up.

Thanks for help...center Larry Foust...lost as a Pistons, Lakers and Hawks.

What is interesting...he played for those teams in their previous cities...so Fort Wayne, not Detroit Pistons, Minneapolis, not Los Angeles Lakers and St. Louis, not Atlanta Hawks...

Not to derail the thread, but could you imagine what would happen if a guy did that now? You would have guys from ESPN getting in his cab and asking him the entire ride why. Hot takes for days!

Well, that was almost a given, unless he had played for the Celtics or Knicks. :)

An article says that Rick Carlisle is one of 11 men to win championships as both a player and a coach, obviously meaning head coach.

Who were they?

I've actually only identified 10 myself. 5 Celtics and 2 non-Celtics came quickly to mind; I thought of another non-Celtic a bit more slowly; I came up with 2 more through research I'd never have thought of on my own.

Hint: There was a 7-year stretch in which all the championship coaches were on this list, and 5 different coaches were included.

Hint: At least 2 of the guys won as a player with another guy on the list coaching them. This happened in consecutive seasons during the aforementioned stretch.

HInt: At least 5 of the guys won championships as player and coach for the same team.

It seems that the true figure is at least 13, because you got 3 I wasn't thinking of -- missing Kerr is really embarrassing -- while omitting 2 that I had found through research.

My hints above might help.

You all forgot Red Holzman: player with the 1951 NBA champion Rochester Royals, won 2 titles coaching the Knicks (1970 and 1973)

It was kind of easy to get the 10 most recent and Celtics, but I didn't know Holzman/Costello played and never heard of Jeanette or Senesky.

Pretty much my situation, except I did enough Wikipedia research to uncover Holzman & Costello. Hence my hints.

I hope Davor feels as stupid about missing Holzman with hints as I do about missing Kerr without any. :)
