Why? I like Jackson or Ulis better then any older veteran PGs that we even have a shot at. Nothing wrong with having youth, strength and athleticism. This team isn't winning titles right now so let them grow.

I wouldn't trade the pick just for the sake of trading it, but I'm not so enamored with the pick or the guys available in that range that I would be disappointed if we did. This shaping up to be a very drama free draft for me, there are a handful of guys that I like but don't love that may or may not fall to us, we may or may not trade the pick. Either way, there are probably a dozen scenarios that I'd be happy with. I imagine a lot of you feel the same way, just look at the diversity in the polls.

^ yeah, the only guy that I really dont want to see them draft is Maker. The kid seems lost out there most of the time. the only thing he seems to do well on a basketball court is get in his teammates way, from what ive seen. If the PGs are off the board id much rather they take Cornelie, even though he'll probably stay in Europe for another year or two.

Cornelie said he doesn't wasn't to be a draft and stash guy he wants to play in the NBA immediately.

Did he? In one of the interviews I watched he said it would probably be a year or two. It must have been an older interview. If thats the case id have to think about taking him over Jackson. Ulis would still be my top choice.

I went with Brice Johnson. Thon Maker has the potential to be better but he could also bust out in no time. I don't like any of the point guards available at this point either.
Johnson looks like he could stay around for quite a long time and play PF and some smaller ball center if he can put some more muscle on. I like his athleticism to guard other PFs and his rebounding for sure, that might be useful considering how Drummond can fall into foul trouble at times.
Hopefully, Sabonis or Valentine fall to us though :).

I'm surprised Brice Johnson doesn't get more love. What's the major knock on him? Maybe we could get one of Phillys later picks for Meeks or something. They don't need all those picks and need a SG and some experience cause I doubt they will do well in FA.

If Valentine isn't available and we can't trade up to get him, trade the pick. I'm not enamored with any of these other prospects. I like Sabonis as an overall player, but I don't trust his jumpshot and we need to improve shooting first and foremost.

It's a tie, so let's go with Jackson since there seemed to be a bit more support for him in the discussion. Thanks for playing.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yup, if I had to pick between the two, I'd probably take Jackson.

Yeah that's fine with me. If it weren't for Johnson then I would probably go with Jackson. If that happens I just hope they can teach him to play some defense. Offensively he's a pretty good fit.

I'm on record in some other Draft thread that I would trade #18 to get TWO later firsts.

We're not gonna be giving real minutes to a rookie next season - so grab 2 & develop them.

The cap might be exploding but rookie deals aren't! Having cheap depth is never a bad thing

I'd even take late 1st, early 2nd.. possibly even two late seconds. Depends on who is there.

But profiles as a guy who can defend those stretch fours and fives while not being a complete liability offensively, although he's probably going to always be limited on that side of the ball. I think Johnson won't ever be much more than a role player in the NBA but the role he plays is going to be more and more valuable as the league's bigs keep trending to get smaller and based more on the perimeter. At 18 that's a fine type of player to invest in. I wouldn't expect much more than that from just about any of the prospects slated to be available in that range. The European guys being the exception, they're always a bit harder to project than the players we as fans see much more of.
