What would our weaknesses and holes be if we signed horford and Whiteside?

Doubt we land both of those 2, but we would definitely be really weak at shooting. Obviously we'd start those guys at PF and C, but what happens at PG, SG and SF? Hezonja and Fournier are above average shooters, but Payton (who starts), Oladipo and Gordon are below average.

It could be hard to find a good venue downtown for our championship celebration 8-)

We would probably have to draft some pg that could shoot, like Baldwin. I wish free agency happened before the draft

This is why I keep trying to trade some combination of Payton, Vuc and 11 to move up for Dunn or come up with some trade package that lands us a star PG like Kyrie. ...and if we did use up our cap space on 2 max FAs, then I'm all good with resigning Fournier using his Bird Rights (AS LONG as that also means we will use Oladipo's Bird Rights to keep him next summer).

Kyrie or Dunn / Watson
Oladipo / Fournier
Hezonja / Gordon
Horford / Gordon
Whiteside / Dedmon

Heck... if we got Kyrie and Whiteside... I might even have the balls to call Durant's agent!

I do think Kyrie is going to be shopped. I don't know if they will do a deal but Kyrie and Lebron are not a good mix and idk if Kyrie is willing to change his style of play to be there with Lebron. You kind of get the feeling he thinks he is good as is and never gonna bring it at a high level defensively.

Whiteside/Vuc
Horford
Gordon/Hezonja
Oladipo/Fournier
Payton/?

That's an athletic and elite looking defensive team. Fast break and transition would be the main game.

Shooting wise, Horford is a stretch 4 with range to the 3pt line. Oladipo's 3p% is respectable. But if teams crowded the paint and sagged off Payton and Gordon, we'd just need to give them the greenlight to shoot a lot more and hope that their shots have improved and that we can crash the long boards.

See for me if that line up was to work and for AG to start at SF Payton would have to be traded. We'd have to have a efficient shooting Point who could handle a lot of the scoring coming from threes especially . If not I don't think we'd have near enough scoring. I don't see AG developing enough of a shot next year for that to work

Kyrie is a little fools gold to me. Kyrie doesnt make his team better. He was getting accolades while his team was getting a #1 pick. Lebron is one that carries team to the playoffs. I cant give up that much to get Kyrie.

I think the moment we got a shooting PG, everybody would be screaming about wanting a pass first PG. we just need to give Payton and AG time to find their offense, rather than trying to make them like everyone else. Lowry and DeRozan just made the ECFs without much of a 3pt game between them.

this forum hammered jameer for years trying to replace him because he wasn't "pass first" even though he was a very efficient player, now the forum wants to get rid of a pass first guy because he's not a good shooter, when the fact is Elfrid significantly improved his shooting at the rim and from 3. If Elfrid even made half the improvement from 3 he made this year, next season, that makes him a 36% guy, it's certainly not that far fetched

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

This is pretty spot on though, people here never support the PG.. well never since Penny pre-injury.

It wasn't until after Dwight left that Jameer was looked upon more fondly (and his insane all-star year) -- before that, nobody really trusted in him. I remember only a handful of people really appreciating him.

Well his % might have increased but the few shots he takes are pretty much uncontested/wide open ... if he tried to take the shots Kyrie takes he'd probably shoot a very low %.

Why would we want him taking the kind of shots Kyrie takes? They are different sorts of players. Kyrie plays no defense and doesn't make his teammates better while Elfrid is the opposite.

This. Payton is an athletic pass first point guard. His shooting definitely needs improvement, but he has improved, and can still improve more (improve  )… anyone remember Jason Kidd when he first came into the league? By no means did Kidd become a marksmen, but he did gain a respectable shot. Channing Frye has also made a recent living off of a developed shot he definitely didn't have when he first came into the league. Payton is only in his second year. I'm way more concerned with his FT shooting tbh.

Kidd became an incredible 3pt shooter. Infact hes currently 5th in career 3pters made.

You can still be a "pass first" PG and not completely suck at shooting. Payton has to be a "pass first" PG because he can't shoot. For all the crap Jameer took while he was here, he still was seen as an all-star at one point despite not being a "pass first" PG.
