It seems that they have 2 wanna be alphas (DRose needs a reality check).
Got classic bigs, but wanna go small ball (hoiberg).
Got some young pieces, but are in a win now mode.
Coming off a really really no excuse bad year (regardless of injuries).

I think they need to pick a damn direction. IMO - They should rebuild. They been trying this core for 5+ years & it reached its peak.

Sayyyy we give up 3, 16, Rozier, (amir) for Jimmy. Don't see why they would want Bradley & Jonas? Just have Amir on an exp deal.

Build around McDermott, Mirotic, Portis, Snell, Felicio. Draft Dunn #3 for sure. Go for Murray & Davis with the 14 & 16.

Dunn - Rozier
Snell - Murray
McDermott - Holiday
Mirotic - Davis
Portis - Felicio

Go young, let the Pups play. That's without getting any return for Gibson & Rose.

Their direction is to put the best possible team around their max contract franchise player in Jimmy Butler. It's not championship or bust in Chicago. Butler isn't going anywhere this summer.

Unfortunately we can't force teams to rebuild just because we want their allstar player.

Barnes is not that good tho. Hes just a name nothing more.

Don't we already have our version of Barnes with Crowder?

Nah, we traded our version of Harrison Barnes to Memphis last season already.

I'm not a Celtics fan, but I am excited to see what you guys are able to do this off-season. You guys have a play-off team already and will be adding the #3 pick and can add two max players. Its like a NBA 2K player's wet dream. Whatever you guys end up doing, all I ask is that you please beat Lebron and the Cavs for the foreseeable future.

I don't think those two players are comparable at all.

If I had the choice of giving the money to Barnes or a BWS like Ryan Anderson, I'll take Barnes. Barnes is a gamble. Anderson is a mistake.

Oh, Barnes and Green are comparable. Both are physically gifted and have the skills to succeed, but unfortunately, both are mental midgets. Barnes is a mistake that will cost the team getting him almost $20 million/year if not more. Cave has already come out and given us insider info about Barnes being a fragile guy, which is the only reason he starts ahead of Iguodala.

Man, this can't spell good things for Kevin Love and his ever disintegrating reputation.

Cavs get signed Ryan Anderson and 16, Celtics get Love, Pelican's get one of the seconds.

If the only thing this offseason nets us is our long-term primary rim protector/rebounder, I'll be like 69% satisfied. Also, not a fan of overpaying (trade) or handing out huge contracts (FA) to bigs who are softies (physically or mentally) or can't defend in space/PnR.

Apparently we could get Ryan Anderson as a FA for much less money and similar production hahaha

It's close for me between this and outside shooting. A rim protector could elevate our already solid and hard-working D to exciting heights. On the other hand, our offense is so dependent on creating a lot of good looks from the perimeter but we are SO BAD at shooting. Clearest area to upgrade.

Of course, the good news is that our assets are such that Ainge has a chance to really nail this offseason and make significant gains on both fronts through any combination of trades, FA signings, and draft picks.

Yep, ideally, we nail all three needs -- rim protection/frontcourt upgrade, outside shooting, wing scoring/playmaking. Just trying to temper my expectations. I believe our 3-point shooting will improve simply with Sully and Turner gone (IF they are gone), redistribution of shots to our higher-% guys, and hopefully, less injuries to our guards/wings. I also think Hunter has shown that when he's given more PT/shot opportunities, he can hit those threes at a decent clip. I'm still hopeful Smart and Rozier can raise their accuracy by a couple % points with repetition and better shot selection.

A scenario I've been playing around in my head is the following.

Boston trades Avery Bradley Kelly Olynyk #3 #23 all of their 2nd rounders and the Memphis pick to LAC for Blake Griffin Reddick and Pierce.

Then go out and sign Noah and Gasol to a 1+1. Draft best available shooter at 16. I think it's a realistic plan. But might not be the most popular with people on this board given Gasol's age and the fact he has never really been known for his defense. Pierce can still probably give 10-15 minutes a game on an effective basis. Just an off the cuff scenario.

Guards - Reddick Thomas Smart Rozier Hunter #16
Forwards - Pierce Griffin Crowder Mickey Young JJ
Centers - Gasol Noah another FA minimum player.

How are we getting Love in this scenario? Going to take at least #3 and AB or Crowder imo. I don't have any problems with Love and think he would fit nicely here, but I don't think we'll want to give up what we need to for him.

I wouldn't offer 3,crowder or Bradley. id see if they would bite on Smart/Jonas/Amir/23/31. I know I said in another thread I wouldn't deal any picks for Love but if its 23 and 31 I can live with that. They get Jonas 3pt shooting they lose from Love and they get better on D with Smart/Amir. Pipe dream maybe but that's what I'd offer. Maybe DA would trade the third pick but I wouldn't want to. Loves value isn't exactly sky high right now after the Cavs pummeled GS last night.

The egg on their face notwithstanding, wouldn't the Cavs prefer either AB or Crowder to Love at this point? Not saying this trade would happen, but looking at this Finals match up I don't see how Love is better for that team than either of those guys.
