Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
Suppose Durant bolts (unlikely, I think, but whatever). OKC makes its entire roster available for the right deal. What would you be willing to give up for Serge Ibaka?
Would you consider KCP and one of Morris/Harris? Too much? I can't help but think of how good the fit is with Drummond -- Ibaka has range and plays help defense but isn't a grinder. Perfect fit. Still only 26.

Re: Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
Is Serge Ibaka actually 26? It's a fair question. This is an interesting read:

Ibaka has regressed two years in a row with last year being the largest regression. That could very well be due to Donovan's scheme or ill-effects of his knee problems. In any case, while I loved his game from a couple years ago, I think he is too big of a risk to give away our young talent for. I don't want to trade a couple of our trending-ups for a trending-down, because I think their lines will intersect sooner rather than later.

Unless we're giving them SJ & KCP I don't think they bite.
Mook & KCP (& Baynes or Meeks or whatever) gives us:
Dre, Ibaka
Ibaka, Harris
Harris, SJ
SJ
RJ
Draft/Sign perimeter shooters...
Surely the Thunder could get a better package.
What would the Cavs give to have Ibaka instead of Love?

Eh - I think you can cross all the thunder players off our list. For what we would have to give up, it's just not worth it considering the chemistry issues it would create.
Also, what's up with him? He was a rim protecting monster 5 years ago. Now? He defends in spurts and wants to shoot 3's?

Ibaka is turning into a role player. For whatever reason his production has been dropping the last few years. He is going to be 27 in few months so he kind of fits with our core but the decline concerns me. I'd trade for him but i wouldn't overpay. Maybe a first rounder and one of Marcus Morris or Tobias Harris.

Ilyasova is 2 or 3 years older than he's official age.
Anyway, the "core" and all that stuff from some posters here is annoying. Nobody can put a team who is really competitive and only got young players. And the regressed of Ibaka, I think is due to the progress of Adams and other contributors.

If he was locked up for more than one more year I would deal Drummond for him and Adams.

Re: Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
He's regressed in his play and can walk in year. So best case is he's gives us an upgrade over Tobias that probably costs somewhat more. I wouldn't want to risk young guys who we control for the next few years (SJ, KCP) while Tobias, Mook, our pick, etc. wouldn't be enough.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

This. It isn't a long term deal that he has, so I wouldn't give up much for him. And for the record, even though I love trades (real or fantasized), I don't think the Pistons have to do a lot in the offseason. Backup PG. Backup PF. Get them through free agency. Add a draft pick but low expectations there. And then just improve our young roster. We don't need to trade away a couple of our core players for a marginal upgrade. We will upgrade from within this year.

Re: Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
It's hard to say without having a feel for the chances of him resigning with Detroit in 2017. Some teams can afford to take risks on potential one-year rentals but I don't think the Pistons are one of them. If they give up 3+ quality/young assets for Ibaka and he bolts then that's a setback of years. Until proven otherwise Detroit still isn't a free agent destination and it's not like the roster is particularly deep as it is with only 7 players locked-in (assuming Bullock and Hilliard aren't).
Ibaka would be the best fit at power forward the Pistons could find and if he's agreeable to signing long-term with Detroit (or they're willing to give him a max or close to it) then go for it. If not, don't take the gamble. They're not at the stage to be able to do that yet.

You don't make the team better by filling one hole via creating another. Pass.

Re: Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
Since he started shooting threes other parts of his game have declined. It feels like 2-3 years ago Ibaka showed the improvement to be a borderline all star, averaging 15/9 with 3 blocks.
But yeah, I would say I'm not interested in trading for him because of his contract length. Maybe in FA.

This. Improve from within and upgrade Tolliver and Blake.
Let's hope Stanley is in the lab cause he's the guy with the potential to improve the most. As i write that though Drummond/kcp/tobias/rj come to mind too lol

Would like to see Ibaka on a team where Westbrook & KD aren't dominating the ball.
The team that trades for Ibaka can offer substantially more to re-sign him.

Re: Random Musings: What would you trade for Serge Ibaka?
I'd give up KCP and first round pick for Ibaka. I'd possibly also give up KCP and Harris for Ibaka. We don't know how Harris is coming back guys. I mean this guy is a grind hard worker along with several of our players. I mean if you have a guy like Morris that can turn around his career in one year the way he did, any of our players could become stars next season and they've all got the versatility to do so. What you get with Ibaka is a player you can win with. Not many players can play PF/C, shoot the 3, and block shots/help defense. That's a rare player to have in the NBA. That alone will probably command more than we can give. I'd like to think we have a shot at Kevin Love as well. Cavaliers could easily sign a star next offseason, Durant? But only if they give up a big contract like Love. Anything is possible with our FO. If you can get solid players like Ibaka/Love back for KCP, you trade him and beat the Cavs in the postseason

If we trade Drummond I want a star player or high picks not two role players. Plus Adams isn't than good what makes him better than Aron Baynes?

What makes Drummond better than Baynes, some empty stats? Nobody is trading a star player or high pick for Drummond, do you think the Lakers would trade the #2 pick for him, the league knows he's not that good.

Why do you say he has empty stats? Kid dominates the paint and led his team to the playoffs at 22. While he could be even better then he is which is still good he's far from putting up empty stats.
How is he better then Baynes? Do you just not pay attention like the rest of the world during games? Everyone not even just Detroit fans weren't talking about how much worst we looked when Dre was taken off the floor in the playoffs?

I don't what his trade value is but its no reason to trade him for lesser pieces. Andre has his flaws but he is much better than Aron Baynes and Adams better rebounder, pnr player, maybe defensively as well. Almost any big will look decent when all they do is stand and wait for Westbrook or Durant to dump it off to him. We might as well keep Andre and hope he gets better like our other players instead of trading him for guys that have no shot of being stars.

I want smart players, not "stars". Kevin Love is a star, do you want him, I sure as hell don't? Adams is the same age as Drummond but he's much smarter so in my opinion he has a better chance to improve dramatically. Dumb players don't ever improve, they are what they are and what they are is stat stuffing bums.
