New Assistant Hired!!!!

Post#1 » by ThadMan » Thu Jun 9, 2016 7:01 pm

So after a week off, after our loss, I thought I would jump back on the net, only to find we've hires a new assistant to replace Monty, who isn't returning understandably. Defensive minded apparently? What's everybody's thoughts and does anyone know much about Adrian? Personally hadn't even heard of him? Lastly, a happy off season to all!!

You guys are lucky, Magic fans didn't want to lose Griffin. Really good assistant that the players like.

Thanks man! Looks like defenses generally were pretty good under him, so I'm hoping for that improvement for sure.

The only reason I knew who Adrian Griffin was is because I remember him as a player. I had no idea he was an assistant coach. But if Magic fans are upset about losing him, then I'm happy with the hire. Orlando's defense wasn't anything special (middle of the pack) but they also didn't have anything special in terms of defensive personnel.
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:

His defenses w/ Thibs were fantastic. MKE went from 30th before him to 15th to 1st in the 2 years he was there, then he was w/ Chicago too.

With some consistent defence, the Thunder were a real contender. They have such good length, just need the drive to be good. This last playoff run should really push them towards better defensive tenancies, although another year and changing schemes again may lead towards a rough start. Hopefully Adams takes another leap and KD plays defence like he did in the playoffs ( assuming he still here ) . But I like the hire esp. being defencively minded.

Good hire. Solid rep and defensive pedigree.

Better defensive coach than Monty. Assuming Billy is comfortable now I think it's an upgrade, will miss Monty though.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
