I just listened to Progressive 2 its ok. Better than the stuff I heard from him recently. I actually like Vince Staples the person, dude is not a clown, and he has the heart to speak his mind. Just have not really warmed up to him as a fan of his music. I think my main issue with him right now is production...I don't think his production is that good.

Vince to me has it all. His voice is sleepy but you can't tell me he doesn't flow. He's similar to Nas in that he paints the most basic picture in his rhymes and it still sounds deep. It's just natural to him (he actually only started rapping because Earl Sweat and a bunch of other dudes kept telling him to do it because when he did rap he was so good). Songs like Baron Davis off his first tape are just so great to me:

I'd say he's like Nas where his flow really makes his songs. I've put plenty of people that didn't really like him on because most people play songs like Norf Norf when trying to put him on and personally I feel that song's decent but not good enough to put people on to him. His real gems are songs like Screen Door or my personal favorite of his - Trunk Rattle:

I understand it's not for everyone but he's one of those guys (Danny Brown is another one) where the songs people tell you to check out are rarely his best ones.

Like I said, Staples has talent/bars but his cadence on the mic just doesn't do it for me. Not knocking him, his fan base is established and if they stay committed that's how you end up like J Cole regarding success. For the record, love me some Danny Brown. As far as his project with Doom, yeah it wasn't Doom's best work but the fact he was actually able to make that album speaks volumes to me.

He does not seem to be apart of the roster anymore.

Yeah he just split with Mass Appeal, but there still releasing his first album. Still this was someone just a few years ago that Nas was calling the future of music. I haven't listened to his latest mixtape yet, but it seems like it's getting some praise online. It's funny that we talk about dudes falling off, because were talking about 19/20 year olds. They still have plenty of time to grow, that's why I never understood why some people are so obsessed with finding the next great young thing.

If you wanna talk underrated & upcoming, Dizzy Wright got a few joints. Not super nice in 1 area, just solid all around & positive essence on the tracks.

Nas is why. Big is why. Truth is in rap young dudes will always move the culture whether it's in a good or bad direction.

I hear you, but technically no one should be digressing at that age. I thinks thats the problem. Its like a 19 year old Prodigy losing some speed in only like 4 -5 years in his song writing ability. Its not supposed to happend. Thats another thing about the artist of this era, very few can maintain a certain skill level. Bishop went from interesting to basically run of the mill. He does not even stand out anymore in his ability. He once did. These cats are not even releasing enough music to be dropping in quality of music.

XV IS COMING BACK!

That's dope. Was going through some of his music a few weeks ago & went on like an hour search to find out where he vanished to.
He had some cool joints during my late high school, early college days. He was in the same rising group with Big Sean (life vs. livin'), Wiz Khalifa (gobstopper), KDot, & etc. then just fell back. Last I remember was his joint "awesome" was on NBA 2K13 maybe? It was also on a commercial. Glad he'll be back. A lot of rappers done jacked his style since his disappearance act.

Also, XV is Jerian Grant's cousin.

XV isn't the only rapper that needs to return.

Rapper by the name of Curt@!n$ (from Brooklyn) needs to come back. He had that essence. Think he's still signed to Pusha but he's primarily focused on his fashion ish. His flow was great & wordplay was too real. Take these joints for example:

^ Kendrick Lamar on 1st verse, Curt@!n$ on 2nd & Chance Infinite on the 3rd verse

Wtf he's Grant's cousin? That's awesome.

I've loved XV for a longggg time. I've been waiting for Kid With the Green Backpack to drop since he announced it years ago. I don't know what happened to him, but I was legit upset when he just dropped outta thin air. He's released one (two?) mixtape type things on soundcloud for the NCAA tournament, but that's it. So happy he's coming back though - he IS great.

Lol yeah I didn't know either until you posted his instagram link. Scrolled down a bit & found out 2 Knick connections ironically.
He's the Grants' cousin --> https://www.instagram.com/p/0JUG23CvMW/
& he's cool with Cleanthony Early because of the Wichita connection -- > https://www.instagram.com/p/xw3sNxCvAV/

& yeah man, I have all XV's projects. Even the March Madness joints. Definitely had a lot of dope tracks. The Pop Cutlure project was slept on too.

I like hopsin he was signed to the same label as dizzy and futuristic who I also like a lot but apparently they had a falling off and he's on his own now iirc.
