Urias Getting Into the Groove

Post#1321 » by Ranma » Wed Jun 8, 2016 4:23 am

Urias was locked in tonight and looked more than ready to pitch the 5th inning before Roberts pulled him due to the pitch count. He wouldn't have given up that 1 earned run were it not for Kendrick pussyfooting it out in LF by tentatively slowing up on the warning track on the fly ball hit off the wall.

Step your **** up Puig.

Something tells me that when Ethier gets back, he's not going to have a super high swing and miss rate and tons of Ks.

We don't like Corey Seager because we think he's going to be a sometimes hitter.
We think he's going to be a great hitter (especially if you trust Keith Law).

He doesn't need to sit against Lefties.
Even if his splits there aren't as good...just slide him down in the lineup and let him see the pitching.
Sheesh.

What Dave did with tonight's lineup is unforgiveable, particularly given how we've swung the bats recently and given that we're headed in to SF for a pretty tough series.

Put out a chit lineup, score 0 runs.

No one saw that coming.

22 year old kid doesnt need a day off tthe day before a day off.

Guys.

You really think this offense is acceptable?
You really think they're gonna turn it around if we wait?

10 hits in the Colorado series.
No hits since the 1st inning against Cueto.

offensive slump is a part of the game. give us a chance.

we know Chase appears to have resurrected his career.
Seager is at the brink of a superstardom.
Turner is slumping badly and he should at least get back to a league average
Gonzo... maybe his aging is catching up but it is what it is. maybe by the end of this season, we may need to move him down the lineup.
Thompson is surging and I don't know if he is a fluke or not
Pederson should start figuring it out, or he will be a trade bait.
grandal needs to step up but it sounds like he is battling with injury, but now Barnes is up. let's see what this kid can do.
**** at LF can be improved. I love **** but I love him as our ultimate utility guy who gets about 400 at bats a season without being a season opening starter.

... and we have Puig who we know could be a star.

and Tuner just gets us the game winning HR on the top of the 9th as I type this, lol.
ehhhhh f it.

... and if all else fails, we can trade Gavin Lux and Puig along with a pair of pitching prospects say Holmes and Buehler to the Angels for Trout? I Guess we can even throw in Pederson if Trout would come with a prospect that is worth a damn... lmao.

Absent Offense

Post#1329 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 11, 2016 4:42 am

Our offense and timely hitting still need work, which is why I wanted Dave Roberts to manage this team as I thought he would be more proactive in manufacturing runs. Plus, I was hopeful Turner Ward would help address whatever is holding our bats back. I think we have the talent to hit, but for whatever reason, we remain inconsistent. I also don't like the idea of pursuing an aging expensive bat for the short-term fix as that would be setting us back in some ways as we recently just cleared some dead weight from the books. Puig certainly needs to make progress towards awakening his bat.

I hope so, as Dave is still minus 3 games in terms of the RS^2/RG^2=Ws/Ls. but what a game man, math aside, gotta love this game for these thrilling endings regardless of the play clock!!!!

i can't tell you in words how much I love this game... and thanks for all the wonderful information you have put up in that draft thread I had forgotten for the last few days. great job.

Oh and BTW the Giants are supposed to be a 33 game winners and we are supposed to be 35 game winners. I would not be all that worried about our team. the geeky math in a long season tends to always work out.

I agree with this statement except if that bat is Trout, Harper, Stanton, or Machado, it alters the future reality of our ball club entirely.
of course the price we have to give up will also change this discussion.

I only suggested that trade package because I am not very high on Lux. I just don't see it. and as I said in the draft thread, I think we are gatthering trade baits anyway.

Targeting True Stars Over Temporary Fixes

It's a no-brainer for those guys. Trout is the one guy I would throw the farm at. I want to wait a couple of years and open the money vault for Machado. I just don't want to make another Kemp-like mistake going after a short-term fix like Ryan Braun or something equivalent.

Lucroy? Cheap deal. Not many years on it. Better than Yaz or Ellis.
Adam Eaton? Lefty with good lefty on lefty splits?....but then our whole lineup would be lefties basically.
Danny Valencia?

One thing is for sure, I'm not terribly interested in staying pat in the middle of Kershaw's prime and in the middle of one of what is looking like his best season so far. Fine...if it's not Braun...cross him off the list. But there's bats out there and this offense is garbage...and hasnt been impressive in a long while...2 no hitters last 2nd half....and relatively NO production against good pitching in the DS.

Adapting to the Times

Post#1336 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 11, 2016 8:22 am

I was actually thinking of Lucroy too as long as the price isn't exorbitant. Part of the problem with our offense has been bad luck and/or teams doing a good job of applying the shift against us. The whole team has to do a better job of hitting against defensive alignments in addition to improving on timely hitting. We're falling too comfortable into batting habits, which is harder for the vets to break while the young guns are more apt to eventually adapting.

Well, that's one Boras Client we'd be paying with another (Seager) coming down the pike....and another (Urias) coming down the pike if all goes well....oh and do we still like Jose Fernandez and that slurve (my goodness it's filthy)? And hopefully the last contract Kershaw signs as a Dodger is here in 2018.

I mean...in a perfect world, there's going to be tons of people to pay BIG money to.
I could see the actual use of trading for Manny and seeing if he has a little Strasburg in him so we can try and lock him up to somewhere below market value.

I also am weary of prime defensive position players being signed past 30. I can live with it on the corners.
But also, I can see Manny having a 3-4 year opt out on his free agent deal and getting another go at free agency at age 30.

Hypothetically Fishing for Trout

Post#1339 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 11, 2016 7:34 pm

Personally, I'd try to swap out Urias and Bellinger for Puig, Holmes, and whatever else it would take in Russo's proposal. Puig would give the Angels a new face for their franchise and maybe he and Moreno can connect on a personal level, though Urias being from Mexico would be more relatable for the Mexican-American team owner. Vin Scully thinks Trayce Thompson works better in RF than CF, but the Angels would probably ask for him as well.

Urias isn't going anywhere.

Puig, Pederson, Holmes, Verdugo, Zach Lee and Alex Wood for Trout and Cam Bedroisian. If they must have De Leon, then we pull one of either Holmes or Wood from the deal.
