The difference with Embiid is he doesn't have one chronic thing. Oden had microfracture surgery(I believe) and had chronic knee problems. Embiid's issues were spread out. He may be brittle, or he may just be a guy who was growing into his body and had some bad luck. We'll never know for sure, but when you don't have enough information to make the call, of course fans will chose to have a glass half full approach until proven otherwise.

We are looking for a superstar. General trait of a superstar is the ability to be dominant on 1-2 ends of the court.

Started in 2013.
Drafted Noel and he's shown potential to be a dominant defensive player.

2014. Biid and his potential to be dominant 2 way player.

2013. Jah over KP. Jah has shown potential to be a dominant offensive player while KP is more of a good two way player.

2014. Simmons over Ingram because he's likely to be more dominant than Ingram, who is more of a good two way player.

That's why we are going for these guys. Having a superstar makes it easier and gives you a lot of options. As Daryl Morey said, history shows you need 1-2 all nba players on your team to win a championship. A superstar + good team environment, gives you an upperhand via FA, that all is not lost if only one of these guys succeed.

I noticed that Simmons wore number 20 in highschool, and 25 in college. Why was that?

I assumed that he would wear 25 with us, but neither number is retired, so he could choose either. Was there a reason that he switched from 20 to 25?

Because that's tied to positional averages, my projections don't believe anyone can truly be as good at both rebounding and playmaking as Simmons has been this season. As he continues to prove his performance is no fluke, Simmons' projection will improve with the same level of play.

When we look at unadjusted stats on Sports-Reference.com, the difference between Simmons and Ingram in terms of production becomes much wider. Simmons has the sixth-best score among freshmen in box plus-minus (a form of statistical plus-minus akin to what helps inform ESPN's real plus-minus) in the Sports-Reference.com database back through 2010-11, behind Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel and Cody Zeller. By contrast, Ingram's BPM ranks 51st among freshmen over that span -- very good, certainly, but not elite.

I thought an article came out saying it was the owners who told Hinkie he couldn't draft KP?

It's just my personal opinion and from what I've observed. While I don't know if the article is true. For me Jah has bigger flaw than KP but has shown ability to be a dominant player than KP.

Most special players, or players in general, have flaws when they enter the league. But they spend their time strengthening their weakness or trying to cover it with the built of the team (i.e. dirk).

We don't draft guys because he is a fit on our team or fit the way the game is played. We draft guys who can be dominant and we let them evolve into a player that fit the NBA game and if they are good enough then we might try to fit the team around them.

KP is the kind of player you surround Jah with.

This is part of the reason I say the Dario Saric pick was Hinkies' biggest mistake. He essentially punted the 2014 draft, when he took Saric. There was no way, after tanking two consecutive seasons, that the owners were going to let him select another little known European, allow the Knicks to draft their "savior" (Okafor) and incur the rath of the Philadelphia media and fanbase. Okafor's familiarity among casual College basketball fans and media, forced him to make that pick. The ownership wasn't going to allow two consecutive drafts to be rubbed in the fans faces, and they forced him to select a player that clearly does not fit the mold or sensibilities of the analytically inclined Hinkie.

But with Saric putting up really, really nice and efficient numbers, maybe Saric was the best player available? We don't know yet what he is in the NBA, but he does seem like a damn good prospect.

I understand the point you're making with Saric but, who else was there that projected to be just as good a player than Saric. Thats why i was ok with the Saric pick.

He's saying that by going full tank in 2014 maybe the owners didn't let him take a risk again in 15 on Porzingis. It's an interesting theory.

Zach LaVine would have been fun to watch throughout the tank.

I wasn't a Zach Lavine guy in 2014, but right now I'd rather have Lavine and Porzingis than Okafor and Saric.

I assumed that he would wear 25 with us, but neither number is retired, so he could choose either. Was there a reason that he switched from 20 to 25?

His father wore 25
He started with 22 at Montverde then went to 20 the year after.

Right, but I'm commenting that "he punted" was probably Hinkie grabbing the best talent regardless of the stipulations involved (missing two years). I'm sure, much like Embiid, Hinkie was hoping that Saric would come over earlier than he did. I would guess that Hinkie didn't expect both guys to not have played a single game for the sixers before the 2016/2017 season.

He didn't expect Embiid to not play for two years, but he said in the first press conference after the draft that Saric wouldn't come over for at least two years.

He turned the 10th pick in that draft into the best talent on the board at that time plus an early second round pick, plus a 2017 first round pick.

It was an absolute heist.

Yea, but I think he was hopeful to bring him over sooner no matter how unlikely it was going to be. Embiid was definitely not expected to be missing this long.

I agree it was a heist and it was definitely not punting.

Still love both 2014 picks. No one behind Embiid has shown to be worth the 3rd pick, and no one in Sarics range makes me want them instead.
