A) yes
B) $20m starting salary.

I think ego will get in the way of getting him below the $20m mark, but I may be wrong (I hope I'm wrong) and he signs for $80m over 4 years, with annual raises.

first year salary would be under 20mil

a) It depends.
I know this is a long shot but if Durant says he wants to play with the Heat, then Hassan will be let go because of the limited cap space. As far as the Heat is concern, I believe they want him back but it will depend on Hassan if he wants to stay. Heat doesn't have his bird rights. He can sign whatever teams he wants.

b) Its not a max contract but he will still end up earning the same net income as other teams can offer, considering the difference in taxes, incentives and per year increase in salary.

So no Hassan if Durant is mesmerized by Riley and maybe if that long shot falls flat. Not too optimistic

That would be a dream scenario. Not sure exactly but that contract would start around 18,5M or so and help out quite a bit going forward.

Then we're in total agreement Rex. He'll stay with a salary starting at 20M.

That's my thinking as well. I wouldn't be too surprised if he did a 3 yr deal with the 3rd year a player's option or a 4 yr deal with the last year an option. That might be a happy medium between lifetime financial security and the ability to cash in on the rising cap if he continues to improve.

Good thinking with a last year player option. Still guaranteed money. but gives him an opportunity at a second contract while still not too old. Might be reason enough to go along with a slightly smaller total amount.

Nonsense. In order to take less than the max all you have to do is sign a deal for less than the max. That may mean more for some players than for others, but it is true for everyone.

If the Shelburne report is true -- that Dragic asked Riley how he could help the team re-sign Wade -- it would be wholly unsurprising for the team to respond that he could take less than the max. I guess your view is that if that conversation took place before the max was offered, it doesn't count as taking less than max because the max wasn't actually formally offered. That's ridiculous. You seem to think that the team must formally offer the max and the player must then say "no, I refuse to sign this max deal because I want to leave money to sign other players" in order for it to count as a player taking less than he could have gotten in order to help pay other players. And, of course, the issue isn't really whether he was offered the max and took less, but whether he took less than he could have gotten. As to that latter point, it's pretty clear that Dragic did. First, he didn't bother to even talk to or take meetings with other teams. Second, the one team (Miami) he did talk to he apparently asked how he could help keep Wade. Pretty sure the answer to that question was to take a little less than he might otherwise take.

Most likely it's structure the contract in a way that gives room now and get more later. Not take less. It's like when we signed Lamar. Front loaded the deal so Clippers wouldn't match. The value of the contract is the same just how it's stretch out.

Dragic's deal isn't front loaded at all. It includes the 7.5% maximum annual increases.

I didn't say it was front loaded. I said it could be laid out in a way that Miami Heat wanted. I use Odom deal as an example. He signed a deal that helped Miami. Odom didn't take more or less.

But it's not laid out in any special or unusual way. It is the standard structure for a non-old (under 32) player with maximum raises each year.

Bleached hair and hasn't been on the Lakers for 4 years. Chalmers signed a new deal when Lebron left and got traded. Im also not buying he left money on the table and if he did jokes on him and took less and got traded afterwards.

In the event that he leaves, Boston would be the preferred destination. Hassan doesn't want to join a lottery team and that's exactly where the Lakers will end up next season.

If they aren't drafting the next Lebron/Wade, that is.

I would think that the Celtics would be more interested in Horford though. Or D12. They need true nba vets...

Whiteside apparently has a speaking relationship with Bill Russell, wouldn't be surprised if he tells Hassan not to consider Boston, he's been very outspoken about that city.

He's famously called it a flea market for racism and of course even more famously said he played for the Celtics, not for Boston. I could divulge more but I've gotten reported for posts in the past over far less and don't want to turn this into something political/social/racial so I will leave it at that but yea I dont see Whiteside considering Boston.

Every large city has it's racists. Even down here in Florida. I don't see why you'd be reported for talking about Boston and Bill's opinion and anecdotal experiences.

Well, hopefully Boston trades that 3rd pick for Okafor and we won't have to worry about them. Now if Hassan goes to the Lakers he better beware because without Pat's guidance this could happen to him:

People are not taking into account that role is most likely going to be important to Hassan. Outside of Wade, no one else on this team cared to involve him in the offense. Spo benched him to prove a point and it backfired on him earlier in the season when we went on a losing streak. Money is important but for a guy like Hassan who has a chip on his shoulder, he's going to want assurance that he will be featured and made feel like he's a big piece to the puzzle. He and Spo was NOT the best of friends this season, and the favoritism was clear. I hope everything gets worked out and he stays in Miami, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him bolt
To a team that promise him a big role plus the money. It's one thing to take a discount to stay here in Miami like some of you are suggesting, but to take a discount and to continue to be used as if he's Mozgov isn't going to cut it.

And to add on, these best writers like Skolnick ran the smear campaign all season long to make Hassan look bad. These things will be on his mind.

And I wish people stop saying Hassan won't make it without Riley/HEAT org. Ask yourself this? In this point in time with Riley getting older and Wade's play on the decline, will the HEAT survive without Hassan? All teams have cap space so it's an level playing field now. I hope for the best and that he's here in Miami long term, considering I'm going to be in Miami a lot in the coming years so I would love to continue to see him dominate in a HEAT uniform.
