Several teams with significant cap space this summer — the Celtics, Lakers, Suns, Mavericks among them — have the intention of pursuing Barnes, especially as a fallback option for Durant. Barnes is expected to receive and offer of at least $20 million per year or perhaps as much as a max offer starting at about $23 million.

Gross.
I think GS will match any offer but they'll likely regret it.

Barnes is only 23 and an outstanding defender. Go get him Danny. And Barnes is not instead of Durant, he's in addition to Durant.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
Welcome to the land of Mediocrity . No way should the Celtics sign Harrison Barnes unless they have a deal in place to bring a star player like Kevin Durant or Paul George.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
I wouldn't a 23m a year salary spot on somebody not cracking 10 ppg in the post season. He does play good defense, but he's not even a top 3 defender on his team.

Take a shot at Barnes. Screw it. You got the cap room. Do it. I don't think Barnes is great, but he's 4th option in Golden State. If he was second option here, how much better would he be? He's Marcus Smart's age. Let's do it.

All this talk from the Celtics about having the ability to sign Two Max Free Agents. Watch them waste it on above average players .

We'll see. We were patient last summer and only signed place holders basically. Didn't blow a ton on Monroe or Tobias Harris so hopefully we do the same if Durant re signs

Barnes as a second option would help like Jeff Green did...

Horford and Barnes and hit an HR with No. 3 pick.

Maybe. Or he could be James Harden. Just saying that Barnes #s are decent for a guy who only gets nine shots a game.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
What makes Barnes better than Jae Crowder...? I don't see a point in investing in him.
Barnes is a 3 and D guy who gets relatively uncontested buckets...James Harden was one of the all time great 6th men, there were people on here saying James Harden was a superstar while he was coming off the bench.
Harrison Barnes isn't James Harden, and James Harden wasn't a secret - he was the best playmaker on his team while averaging 18 points on 66 TS% with the ability to create for himself. You're kidding yourself if you think Harrison Barnes is an actual franchise player.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
Harrison Barnes isn't a superstar. But he is a starter on a championship team that appears to be on its way to a second championship. He's a winning player.
Barnes is alot like Crowder. That's why I want him. If Crowder were a free agent in June, you certainly wouldn't get him for a piddling $7M a year.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
I feel like Barnes is sort of like Jeff Green - but with the right intangibles. Good role player who could certainly emerge as more in coming years. But the max? Jae Crowder would be getting 7-8 mil a year while Barnes made 20? Bye.

Do not panic!
1. He's a fallback option to Durant.
2. The Warriors could very well re-sign him.
3. There's a slew of other teams much more successful, in the ways of NBA Free Agency after him.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
Haha. Some random article lists multiple teams as being "possible" landing spots for Barnes and people act like its a done deal. Like someone said in another thread. This time of the year is about lies. Every team will be linked to every half way decent player. How often does what is said in early June actually happen in July? Very little if any.

You yourself said they had to do this. Now you don't want them to?
