Jeff Bower Agrees to Extension

Post#1 » by coordinator0 » Sun Jun 12, 2016 3:51 pm

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--pistons-extend-gm-jeff-bower-212332785.html

Detroit Pistons general manager Jeff Bower has reached agreement on a multiyear contract extension, league sources told The Vertical.

Bower, who works under president and coach Stan Van Gundy, was entering the final season of his original three-year deal, league sources said.

No reason for the team not to give him one. The front office has been pretty good since the new regime took over and it's always sounded like Bower has played a big role in that.

I had no idea who he was when we hired him. He seems to make solid moves with a long term plan in place, and any interview I've heard him do he sounds like he knows what he's doing. Since he and SVG came onboard, it has all been good news. Giving him an extension makes total sense.

Solid moves? Are you kidding me? Harris, Jackson, Morris, Bullock, Ilyasova acquired for almost zero value. Thats a bunch of great trades and Bower gets way too less credit for this turnaround. SVG is just the guy who say OK lets do this, Bower did all the trade work. Less than 2 years ago the Pistons were in a terrible position with no assets at all, now the Pistons could be a contender in the east next season. Bower did great work and works really well with SVG.

So only a 1-year extension, but still a good move.

Is SVG gonna re-up when his contract is up or is he done with coaching after this? That would suck to lose him in a couple years after building this thing back up.

Bower has done a terrific job working out trades for this team, which have almost universally been steals.

The contracts they've handed out have been on the high side, but they tend to operate under the assumption that Detroit isn't a FA destination (yet), and I have to agree with that.

Their draft history is too new to make any kind of assessment. Dinwiddie hasn't worked out, but he was a second round pick. Johnson needs at least two more seasons before we can make a real judgment on him.

Well-deserved add on year. Surprised it wasn't two to match the current end of SVG's contract, but whatever.

He's our Tom Hagen while SVG is Vito. SVG ask for something and Jeff make it happens.

Great duo and fantastic news for us.

I'm going to guess so. He's doing the thing he's most passionate about (coaching, involved in the NBA) while finally having a FO that caters to his whole vision. I can't see him running away from us unless Tom Gores has a power trip.

I really don't see how he would coach elsewhere without having the same deal as Coach+Prez package short of a king's ransom.

Gores seems to have given SVG the keys to the kingdom, and basically backs him in all of his decisions. I think Gores understands he can't botch this relationship, as the Pistons are trying to shed the reputation of having high turnover in their front office.

Yep SVG & Bower have done quite a lot with very little. I don't know if we will ever win a championship with this core, but I know the pistons are in good hands and at the very least we will have an enjoyable young team to watch for a while.

We're basically a recycling team, we're done with the other teams "trash". But obviously those team got troubles evaluating talent, or getting it from them.

Bower has a done a fantastic job with trades. He's great at spotting situations where other teams need to make a move and letting the pistons "buy low" on talented players.

Well earned extension and vastly under-rated as our GM.

Helped turn a non playoff treadmill team into a playoff team with a future via trades at a time when the cap was exploding!

I think people don't appreciate how difficult that is.

Acquired RJ, Mook & Harris for spare parts! Those 3 are key cogs in the machine.

The fact he got them without giving up a single first round pick is astounding

Well deserved. I don't love the entire roster and haven't loved every move, but he's done a nice job overall.
