Recently, inside the Kansas City Royals’ clubhouse, Yordano Ventura was talking about how he planned on hitting Jose Bautista with a pitch the next time he faced him. The people around Ventura rolled their eyes, tired of the bluster, done with the immaturity, hopeful he was playing fugazi instead of the on-field arsonist they’d seen too many times for their liking. Among his teammates and in the Royals’ front office alike, they’ve long waited for Ventura to grow up, only to end up amazed at how he manages to plumb beneath even his own low standards.

Article says the Royals have been shopping him.

Another angle of Sal Perez trying to stop Machado from rushing the mound yesterday:

RF - Jose Bautista

Transgression: Flippin' bats

It's not just the bat flips. It's the remorselessness. It's that he's doing it against your team. It's that he knows that he's good.

...

That's it? Apparently. But people sure don't like Bautista. This makes him feel very lonely, which is why he follows everyone on Twitter. It's a classic, tragic tale as old as time.

David Price is not looking good against the Os early on, not surprising. Are we cheering for Os to sweep Red Sox because Red Sox look to be a better team?

No. As with all meetings between two AL East teams of comparable standing, we cheer for a meteor.

Ichiro with hit #2977 also happens to be hit #4257 if you include his Japan league hits. That puts him a single hit beyond Pete Rose. He's having one heck of a year in Miami right now. I didn't expect him to hit 3000 hits this year but barring an injury that is going to happen.

Why would you even proffer bringing his Japan hits into the equation? Great player but an insult to what Charlie Hustle accomplished.

Another popular trade target is Padres center fielder Jon Jay, who entered Friday hitting .292 with an NL-leading 22 doubles. Don’t be surprised if the Red Sox, Royals, and Blue Jays take an interest in him.

Gray is 0-7 with a 6.16 ERA over his past 12 starts and hasn’t recorded a win since April 22, but a number of teams still are hoping to get the A’s to part with Gray before the trade deadline. There is thought among some executives that with Oakland well out of the race for the second season in a row, the A’s might be persuaded to do so.

Many contenders, including the Blue Jays, Royals, Orioles, Marlins and Cardinals, had scouts in attendance looking at Santana and Gray. Toronto needs pitching and has become a regular trade partner with the A’s in recent years, but it’s a stretch to imagine Oakland sending a potential Cy Young-type starter to the Blue Jays less than two years after trading 2015 AL MVP Josh Donaldson to Toronto.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays may still consider left-handed power. And while they probably wouldn’t repeat Michael Saunders for Jay Bruce, they may still be the team most likely for Bruce … Though, Toronto people suggest their most likely move is to upgrade the bullpen further, which has been an overall disappointment … The Blue Jays are encouraged by Troy Tulowitzki’s recent at-bats. “Tulo looks like the Tulo from three years ago,” one Blue Jays official said … Front office execs are debating the expected move of Aaron Sanchez to the bullpen to limit his innings. He’s been one of the better starters in the A.L. this year, but they figure it’s the right thing to do … Like last year at this time, the Blue Jays are playing better than their record would indicate.

Christ, I forgot that Joe Musgrove had become a top prospect last year and he's only gotten better this year. That was my biggest problem with trading a chunk of decent to good prospects for a mediocre pitcher - with that much volume, one of them is bound to click.

We got Happ in that trade who obviously became Saunders. The rest of the bodies on both sides haven't made much of a difference. This one doesn't even rank on AA's terrible prospect giveaways.

I'm talking about at the time of the trade, not with hindsight. Who the hell trades decent to good prospects in volume for a 4th or 5th starter?

True. 2 of them were 1st round picks as well. AA sure loved trading pitching prospects.

You can build a pretty credible 12-man staff out of the pitching prospects he traded.

Yet we still have a cheap starting rotation that is somehow one of the best in baseball (for now anyway). Including 2 younger guys. And a few decent prospects in the minors. And great hitters. And some good defense.

AA had a really good run of developing solid prospects but I'm not convinced that he created sustainable success at the MLB from that. The MLB team isn't that young, AAA its barren with MLB prospects and management faces another offseason of pending free agents and tough payroll decisions. That's not to say that he should have kept every prospect but he made some terrible trades over the past 4 years.

Do you guys think Ortiz can get into the HOF after he adds this season to his resume? His career was nothing special up to this point, but he's absolutely beasting this year. I hate the Red Sox and I hate Ortiz so I hope he doesn't get in (especially since Delgado never got in with almost identical career stats), but he's got the 3 rings and now a second truly elite offensive season under his belt. Will that be enough to sway voters?
