Nice podcast.
The Rockets are going to have an interesting offseason, that's for sure!

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make big moves and just maintained flexibility to have two max contract again next off season. It's actually what I prefer they do, overpay guys like Dudley or Marvin Williams big time on a one year guaranteed deal for this year and take another run at KD (assuming he does the 1+1 in OKC) and another star in a MUCH better free agent class

KD doesn't want to come here now, why would he change his mind in 1 year? That ship has sailed.
Curry isn't coming here. Same with Westbrook. Giannis is restricted. Who are you targeting?
Don't forget Harden is a unrestricted free agent in 2018 so playing the waiting game might affect his future decisions.

I mean, we arent sure he doesnt want to come first of all, those reports come out all the time, I'm sure he wont come but he will definitely give some consideration, second of all it makes most sense for him to wait a year and get into the 10 years of experience bracket anyways, and do you not remember when Dwight didn't want to go to the Rockets then the next season he signed here? If we get back to winning 50 games next season and still have double max space he would definitely think about it. Not being disappointing next season would make a huge impact on free agency.
and next free agency is miles better than this one. Even if we don't get another star, like those guys, Blake, CP3, or Hayward that free agency class is stacked with good role players that we could get two of to go with KD and Harden. It would be possible to get Horford and have max space again next year too but thats if you can convince him to come.

But how are we going to get back to 50+ wins if we don't do anything?

New coach, short term guys, like Dudley, Harden playing better, not having JBB, not having Dwight mope because he isn't getting post ups. Harden will be better than he was last year, I think that alone will get us at least close to 50 wins. He carried us to 56 starting Joey **** Dorsey. He can do something close to that with Clint. And hopefully Ariza doesn't just forget how to shoot again

Dorsey started 17 games. I just think after this disaster year I think it would be really bad for the fans to get nothing done this offseason. No draft pick. An unpopular head coach choice. Losing Dwight for nothing but space.

He shouldn't have even played in 17 games lol.
but while that's probably true its better for the teams overall outlook. If they can get one or two of Conley, Horford or Batum then they should do that but if not they are better off saving their money than getting in bidding wars with other teams over average players

KD is not coming here and if he does a 1+1 he will not be hitting free agency again. He's doing that so he can get the supermax from his current team otherwise it was completely useless.
Just let it go

I know it's a pipe dream but there definitely is a reason to stay for one year then leave, he gets into the ten years of experience bracket so his max is a bigger percentage of the cap no matter where he goes, and the max next year will be bigger no matter where he goes again because of cap jump.
