I see simons as a small forward in the nba as well, but has
the ability to play the four also.

Ben Simmons is 3!!!!!! He said himself he looks forward to guarding LBJ & Paul George. I'm so happy, a true small forward with size. I remember in middle school Paul pierce abusing at the 3 with his size and skills. Ben will do the same hopefully. Now we can have a normal 3-4-5 with our true fromtcourt

IDK about a "true" 3. There is a reason why many people project him as a 4 or point forward.

Also, Not sure what is true about our front court...we have 3 centers.

Melo played 30% of his minutes at the 4 this year.
Paul George played 39% of his minutes at the 4 this year.
LeBron played 23% of his minutes at the 4 this year.

Positions don't matter. There are bigs and non-bigs. Simmons is a non-big that will play a large percentage of his minutes at the 4.

PG: Simmons
SG: Stauskas
SF: Covington
PF: Okafor
C: Embiid

That's my starters as of now with no trades or FAs. Noel and Saric will be the key guys off the bench.

Is there any worry amongst people of this board about Simmons getting too big? If he gets so big to the point that it hinders his movements, then it takes away from his uniqueness. Maybe I'm thinking too much and that it's a completely different sport, but McNabb got so big that he lost some of his maneuverability.

Nope. McNabb also added weight, not just muscle...and he also stopped running to try and prove critics wrong.

Too much of the roster is up for grabs. We have a handful of guys with team options and in need of qualifying offers. Plus, two late first round picks.

G - T.J. McConnell / Kendall Marshall
G - Nik Stauskas
F - Robert Covington / Jerami Grant
F - Ben Simmons / Carl Landry / Richaun Holmes
C - Joel Embiid / Nerlens Noel / Jahlil Okafor

As you can see, an entire Foot Locker's worth of shoes still need to drop.

Actually most of the "he's getting too big sentiment" is based on the angle of pics. There are some pics where he just looked rip. It's just some of them makes him look like an action star for a hollywood movie.

Timing matters too. Muscles look bigger right after/during working out from the blood pump.

Obviously position roles in the NBA have gotten a bit more ambiguous, but you still want Simmons playing the 4 in the NBA. When you look at his strengths, he'll be in a better position to take advantage of them at the 4 than the 3.

On defense you want Simmons guarding 4s so he'll have more possessions where he's guarding around the high post or near the basket. This is so he can get as many defensive rebounds as possible. Arguably Simmons best skill is grabbing the defensive rebound, starting the fast break, and finding the open man for an easy bucket in transition. He's insanely good at this. You don't want to limit his opportunities to do this by having him guarding out on the three point line constantly. Additionally, with his combination of size, strength, and lateral quickness, he's the perfect 4 in theory for the Sixers to pair next to Embiid/Noel at the 5. He doesn't have elite length for the position, but he has all the other physical tools necessary to be very good there(whether he has the mind for it is another story, but my point remains).

On offense, Simmons struggled overall at facilitating in the half court, but he did show a nice ability to create when posting up or attacking from the high post. You want him at the 4 so he can fully take advantage of this. Additionally, he can't shoot and until he learns to, defenders are gonna sag off. If this is the case, he's gonna need every athletic advantage he can get to still penetrate effectively. This will be a lot easier to do if he's being guarded by 4s who will be much less equipped to stay in front of him than the average starting 3s will.

Agree on your point that Simmons should get as many rebounds as possible, that's a huge advantage. But he can defend the 4's and play on the perimeter on offense, a pairing with Covington is a nice option. Both players are fairly mobile for their size and shouldn't be a huge liability and Covington's shooting abilities compensate the lack of spacing Simmons offers.

I know muscles bulk during a workout, but personally I don't see the point in having huge biceps and triceps. His leg muscles and upper body strength should be the primary focus, without losing mobility obviously.
