NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
One of these I'm interested in, the other I'm super excited beyond belief! I'll wait a couple hours before I share.
How about you?

I'm pretty excited about the draft. That's are shot at adding another young prospect we can control for a long time. Plus I feel like someone decent will drop to us.

The draft. I'm not excited for free agency at all this summer. Too many teams with max cap space, and far too little talent to spend it on. It's going to be ugly.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency
Its close to a push for me.
The draft is very weak and 17 picks come before ours. There's always the chance we get lucky but we won't know for a long time.
If we can get a halfway decent bench player in FA there's a pretty good chance they'll be better than whoever we draft. Still went with the draft because that's a guarantee we at least get a player. In this crazy FA situation I wouldn't be shocked if we don't sign anyone substantial at all.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
I choose Free Agency, because this affects our roster next year the most. I'm pretty sure our backup PG and backup PF will be coming from Free Agency. The draft will be more a BPA and hopefully get someone who will get into the rotation. That's about all we can expect at #18. The other exciting think is how teams will use their new found cap space - it could be a little strange with average players getting max contracts.
That all being said, I am still excited about the draft. There are a ton of rumors, lots of trade talks, some actual trades, all this leading up to the draft, and then curious where local players like LeVert and Valentine will be drafted. But both the draft and the start of Free Agency happens within a few weeks, so it all blurs together.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
It's always been tough getting key free agents to come to Detroit. Most have busted (Meeks, Gordon, Villanueva) lately, or come over too late in their careers (CWebb, Iverson, McGrady). I still haven't wrapped my head around the new cap figures to know for sure how much utility our cap space could have.
At least with the draft there's a chance you take next Tayshaun at 22 overall or Draymond or DeAndre Jordan in the second round. It's television that I tune into.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
Free agency has always been near disastrous for us for the past 6-7 years. With the lack of talent pool this year in FA as well as literally everybody getting a boost in their capspace, I really don't see how we can get someone good and a reliable one at that.
Folks also need to mind the fact that Detroit has had a shooter's curse here for the last few years or so. Shooters just regress whenever they stop by here.

That's the best part! I don't think our team will be a big player in it but I'm excited to see how teams are going to spend their money and maybe we can get a contract off someone's books the way we did before. Can we do it again? Probably not. But you never know this offseason and that's the exciting part.

Well we have the 18th pick in a pretty weak draft so I'd have to say FA.

That's exactly how teams are going to spend their money. Players get practically whatever they want, their only decision is the destination. This isn't a strong free agent class at the top or middle either which makes matters worse. Trades involving teams dumping guys to shed salary aren't going to happen because nobody needs to. Most teams actually need to add a good bit just so they will be able to hit the salary floor.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
So my vote is 1000% Free Agency. I'm so excited to see these GM's, drunk with millions, blow it on overrated, crappy players. I can't wait until my first "Which contract is worse?" poll on July 2nd. And I hope SVG sits on his hands for the first week. He already picked up Harris at the deadline, that's our big signing. Let the Ryan Anderson Sweepstakes begin! Should be awesome!

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
I'm more excited to see what happens in free agency. Our pick is likely to be a bench guy and potentially a deep bench guy this year. Hopefully we'll snag at least 1 key rotation player in free agency. Plus, I think the whole process is just going to be insane. Both agents and owners are going to make a lot of head scratching decisions trying to figure out the new cap landscape.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
Draft. The draft is always more exciting. Teams are acquiring an unknown quantity, but every team's fanbase believe they've just acquired a great new player, which 22-27 teams are wrong about each year.
I'm excited. With us picking at 18, there's so much more fluctuation and possibilities on who we may pick, or SVG might just trade the pick on draft night.
For free agency, we generally aren't big players there. Look at any of the FA threads from past summers, there's usually a lot more skepticism and negative opinion on our FA signings, anywhere from the player being a bum to over-payment.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
i'm excited for any move we make this offseason but i'm more invested in the draft, i like looking at a bunch of prospects and seeing who each team takes.
also my expectations aren't very high for free agency. we're likely not going to add even a mid-level player like marvin williams so that has me less hyped.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
The draft is usually more exciting to me, but given the shallow pool of talent in FA, and the huge money teams will have, I'm torn.
For the Pistons, I'm more excited about the draft. Overall, FA could get real silly real quick, and that will be a lot of fun to watch.

Re: NBA Draft or NBA Free Agency??
More excited for the draft, even though it is considered weak this year. I just want to watch it all play out in one night and see who everybody selects. They're new names that are going to be in the league and it's just a fun time
. Can't wait!
