I don't think they trade Knight since they traded a lot for him in retrospect. Or did they? Can't recall the exact details.

But they're going to need a extra guard since Bledsoe is so injury prone.

They traded junk and a future lakers pick. I don't think they are sold on him as a starting pg though and may be looking to get out of that contract. Bledsoe is the presumptive pg and booker looks to be a legit sg. $13 million is waaaaay too much for a backup guard on a rebuilding team. It's also waaaaay too much for a small market team like us, but he's the type of guy who could be the backup pg and then also play some 2 guard with RJ. He's got some obvious flaws in his game though and I'm not sure he's mentally ready to go to the bench.

Both Lin and Delly are slated to get near 10 mil+, so I think the way the cap is exploding, you have to expect 10-15 mil to be the new normal in the near future.

Which isn't exactly an overpay for a caliber of Knight. He'd be slightly overpaid at most if he underperforms off the bench. If we somehow sold him on the de facto "OKC Harden" role, then I think he'd come around. The kid just wants to win and belong.

But yea, I don't think he comes here.

Ok, I've given this some thought and for me, worst case still wouldn't be so bad:
Draft: #18 Thon Maker #49 Anyone not named Kay Felder or Caris Levert.
Free agency: Dellavedova and Brandon Bass. Like I said, not that bad, just very boring and uninspiring. Also, I hate Dellavedova, and it would be hard to continue that in a Piston's uniform.

Yeah, that isn't how the math is going to work. 95 mil - 1 max 30mil contract = 65mil for the rest of the team. If $15mil is the range for a 6th man, then starters have to be at least that much. 4 starters x $15 mil = $60 mil and only $5 mil to fill out the entire bench??? The reality is that even under the new cap, a $13 mil bench player is still going to be overpaid. The cap is going up about 34% so that is about what we can expect individual salaries to go up. Obviously, some GM's are going to go nuts and hand out huge deals because so much space is freed up in a single year. That isn't sustainable though. Over the longer term, salaries have to track the overall salary cap.
