I do seem to recall Leb wearing a throwback Wes Unseld jersey before his rookie year.

Nice move by Indiana trading George Hill for Jeff Teague. They finally have a true PG - which should help George and his teammates. And Teague's younger than Hill. Hill is almost certainly on the downhill side of his career. I know Atl wanted to get their younger PG in the starting lineup, but Teague has developed into simply a better all-around player, imo.

It's looking like Atl is going into rebuild mode and expecting Horford to leave. Hmmm, maybe Millsap is available.

It does, doesn't it? They get the #12 pick; maybe they see a Horford replacement at that spot? Not an immediate equivalent to his productivity, obviously, but the right answer all the same to his departure?

I wonder what they could get for Millsap? And, if they wind up significantly younger, I wonder how good they can stay in the transition period.

The Knicks prove that money and fame can't buy a good team in the NBA. I feel bad for Knicks fans. Hard to believe a Phil Jackson-run team is even more poorly mananged than the Wizards. There's only one more year on his contract, but having DRose is like taking on the frustration of Beal's injuries and multiplying it by 4, then add in his rape accusation. Fortunately, the New York media will be patient with Rose.

I agree the Knicks fell in love with names vs. great players and I don't think it will work out for them. Plan A seems to at least have a marketing angle - "big stars in NY". Plan B seems like a total train-wreck, especially if Rose gets hurt or has to be benched.

I would guess they want to make a splash this summer, so I'm predicting Dwight-to-NY now.

Howard
Porzingis
Melo
FA
Rose

Actually not bad on paper, and they can still be active next summer when Rose is a FA.

Getting Howard makes the deal for Rose make a lot more sense. If they strike out on Howard, plan B could pretty ugly. Even if they get Howard it will be tough for them to build depth.

Actually, I think signing Howard makes things pretty ugly. I can just imagine Howard's laissez faire personality rubbing off well on Knicks fans after a slow start. Or Rose bristling at the media over his unwillingness to drive to the rim.

A Rose/Howard tandem in NY is a laugh track waiting to happen. Both are well known, over priced & highly overrated. If folks think Howard is still an elite defender... it's time to update your scouting report. He's nowhere close to the guy he was prior to his back surgery.

I'm not sure the Knicks even make the playoffs with those two. I honestly think Rose is the real reason why Chicago didn't make the playoffs.

Utah did poorly in that deal. They gave up the most valuable asset in the deal - 12th pick for the least value(oldest player as a rental). Utah does have enough young talent that is developing, so they aren't completely in bad shape. One thing that could have made the move better would have been getting the 44 pick from ATL in the deal. Seems like a great spot to get a draft and stash foreign player.

I think what Indy did was pretty slick - dealing a player like to leave and/or decline for one that fits in with Paul George's window.

Knicks have one of the biggest cable markets, and the need to maintain high viewership seems to contribute to the team's penchant for big names at any cost. I think more casual fans will watch a 38-win Knicks team with Carmelo, Rose and Howard than a 43-win Knicks team built through draft and FA and led by Porzingis. Maybe there was a tacit agreement with Jackson to follow such a strategy, or maybe he's just doubling down on a likely loser game. They were lucky to have gotten Porzingis, but they don't seem at all interested in additional young assets.

I hadn't thought about the ratings angle, but that makes sense. I heard ESPN *cough* expert... Michael Wilbon talk about the trade. He was surprised NY got him for so little...

The Brooklyn Nets have traded Thaddeus Young to the Indiana Pacers for the 20th overall pick and a future second rounder.

The Nets re-signed Young last offseason on a four-year, $50 million deal.

The Pacers previously acquired Jeff Teague this week.

Indiana parted ways with Frank Vogel this offseason and elevated Nate McMillan to head coach. The Pacers now project to have a starting five of Teague, Monta Ellis, Paul George, Young and Myles Turner.

Not a bad week for Indy. Still not sure that McMillan is the guy to get the best out of that team, but they look to already be improved heading into free agency.

To me, this looks like a tank job by the Knicks. The Rose deal on it's own turns the Knicks very much into the Lakers of last season where they're going to be dysfunctional and inefficient even if they have a name or two on their roster. So for a season they draw viewers with Rose and sneakily tank after not having a pick this season and go into next offseason with a boatload of cap space.

Howard could sort of fit the trainwreck of names losing games this season in the tank job sense, but he would eat up a lot of their cap space for next offseason, so I question whether their actually interested and will believe it when he signs. Howard certainly has interest in trying to make it seem as though the Knicks would give him the max, though, because he wants to get the max, either from the Knicks or somebody else, and he'll probably get it. :-?

The trade sucked, unless you view Lopez as simply average and limited, as well as viewing Rose as anything more than an expiring former Star that has a name and could be a C+ to B PG. That said, he will help put butts in the seats and The Knicks are really set up for the 2017 FA Class. They now have Melo, Porzingis, and O'Quinn and about 70M in capspace.

Even if they sign Dwight (bad signing), they still would have enough to get one of CP3, Westbrook, KD, Hayward, etc.

Rolo is going to be an insane value on that contract once Ian Mahinmi gets like $65 million.

Hill will help them for 1 year, and then I guess they'll plan on Exum being ready the year after, but Exum was so bad as a rookie that I'm not sure when he'll be ready. I give Utah a C- at best on that trade.

I think Utah will be top 5 in the West next year and will resign him.

You could be right. They have some very talented front court players.

Yeah, this is a "we need to make the playoffs this year" type of move. For the last few years, Utah has looked like they might turn the corner and they just haven't been able to do it. I don't think this makes them top 5, but I do think this puts them over the hump for a playoff spot.

And then even if it ends up being a 1-year rental, if the Jazz make the playoffs it puts them in a better position to attract free agents in 2017 IMO than if they were still viewed as a lottery team that wasn't ready for prime time.

Thad Young to the Pacers for the 20th overall pick. Another solid move by the Pacers.

So glad you coughed when you said ESPN expert Michael Wilbon- you would have invalidated all of your comments on the board if you would have called Wilbon an expert at anything but being a troll- Wilbon will never be forgiven for how he went after Sean21RIP before the facts of his murder came out... But I digress
