2016 NBA Draft Day

Post#1 » by fatlever » Thu Jun 23, 2016 4:37 am

NBA Xmas is finally here. Here is a thread we can use to discuss draft day, rumors, picks and analysis.

Anyone else take a vacation day from work in order to hang out all day and get ready for the draft? I'm getting some BBQ for dinner. Gonna sleep in late, and be lazy all day.

friendly reminder - NO SPOILERS!!! Twitter will be announcing the picks before they are announced on TV. Please do not spoil those picks for those of us who like to see the draft unfold on TV. We will probably suspend repeat offenders after a first warning.

This is what I was thinking as well.

this 23rd - 26th June range for NBA drafts never works for me. the 23rd specifically is the day and night on which Latvians celebrate summer solstice. then I have work for two days. so I'll get to watching the whole thing on the 26th, at best.

This is what I was thinking as well.

I don't get the Beasley focus.

It's not that I don't like him, but we already have a very capable young shooting prospect in Daniels. Why add another? Why not look to add someone with a more diverse skill set - like a ball handling wing (Valentine or Bembry) or a defensive wing (Prince or Brogdon)?

I'd even rather add Diallo over Beasley because he at least gives us something our other bigs (Frank and Hawes - Marv if he comes back) don't.

Such a bad move signing Lamb to that damn contract.

You'd think we'd have learnt after doing the same thing with Thomas.

I still don't think either contract is "bad" under the current cap landscape, but they do present a bit of an obstacle to bringing back more important players.

Wow

Read that as trading back, but we could be using them as assets to move up.

I'm worried it means we give up 22 without getting another pick back.

if they want cap space, its trading 22 + one of them for nothing.

That's how I read, I've been considering this move myself, if it allows us to resign everyone lee, Lin, batum I would be OK with it.

Why? At the very least get a couple second round guys who won't count against the cap until we sign them up.

If we're trying to move salary we must be making a splash signing outside of Batum, Marvin, and Lin. I expect it's a big, so hopefully Hawes will be the one to get moved. I imagine the Lakers, Knicks, Blazers, and Nets would all be interested. I hope we can at least get a 2nd back in the deal. Maybe get the Lakers 32nd pick in exchange for 22 and Hawes.

who would trade a couple 2nd rounders in this trade? how many teams even have 2nd rounders that dont mind losing cap space?

Philly, Denver, Boston, NOLA, Orlando, Utah, Phoenix, Milwaukee, LAC - all have multiple 2nds (or late 1st and early second) with tons of cap space, and most are actively seeking out vets / non-prospects

Lamb and Hawes are not big contracts and there are tons of teams with too many second round picks. It's not going to be hard to move 22 and Lamb / Hawes and get picks back.
