Or the 18th player could be the median of the ten players listed above, which would be a waste.
The only thing the ten players listed above have in common is not being the player Detroit takes in the draft this year. Yeah he could still bust, but those other guys don't matter.
Of course they do - not to mention that this is regarded as a weaker draft. It's a representation of what the 18th pick has looked like. Look up the 17th and 19th picks, they're worse!
Shawne Williams, Quincy Douby, Sean Williams, Javaris Crittenton, Roy Hibbert, JJ Hickson... the list goes on and on.
The one thing that our 18th pick would have going for him is that SVG will give him a fair shake, because he's the guy who drafted him. But what are the odds that the pick helps us this year? One in five? What are the odds that the pick turns into a productive NBA player? One in three? I take the established player in a heartbeat.
