If you are right Mr. The Falcon...I want you to shout it from the roof tops. You must then out your source, because we'd need some sort of proof.
Then you might grab legendary status.

There is a rumor floating around big D that Westbrook has told Durant he isn't re-signing with OKC.

I believe it.
I hate to say it, but dumping Bogut (and letting Barnes/Ezeli walk) would allow the Warriors to keep Livingston while giving Durant a max contract.
Kevin Durant $28,200,000
Klay Thompson $16,663,575
Draymond Green $15,330,435
Andre Iguodala $11,131,368
Stephen Curry $12,112,359
Shaun Livingston $5,782,450
Kevon Looney $1,142,880
30th pick $1,171,560
Empty $543,471
Empty $543,471
Empty $543,471

I'm wondering if the Warriors are considering trading Bogut + #30, moving up in the draft for a better asset, and removing Bogut's salary to enable a Durant signing. Plus then you might get a replacement for Bogut at a higher draft slot. Hmmmm.....

A couple of adjustments are needed.
The cap hold for the 30th pick is the rookie scale (100%), which for 2016-17 is $976,300.
I am not sure where you are getting the $28.2M max for Durant. As a 9 year vet, he's entitled to a 30% max contract. For the 2015-16 season, with a $70M salary cap, the 30% max contract was $19,689,000. Assuming a $94M salary cap for next season and pro-rating (it will likely be a touch different), yields $19.689M * $94M/$70M = $26.44M.
Edit: Ok, I see where you are getting your Durant max #. While it is a 30% max contract, it isn't exactly 30% of the salary cap. It's 30% of a number that's a bit less than the salary cap, roughly 0.942 times the salary cap.

Unless he changes his mind (from last night) he'll be a dub.
Well if that turns out to be the case, I hope Durant refers to himself as a Warrior, not a Dub, for the old-school Warriors fans among us, who cast a side-eye at all the bandwagon riders calling the team the Dubs.

Rumor has it and I'm not making it up, a local sports jockey reported that from his sources Westbrook informed Durant that he was leaving OKC. The guy was adamant that Durant signing with Golden State was going to happen. It was also reported by this guy and ESPN that according to sources close to Durant, he was going to sign a one year deal, but the team he signed with was the team he was going to play with long term. They said he was worn out by his pending free agency and all the speculation for over a year on where he was going. He has no intent of going through another free agency anytime soon.
These are just rumors, but I found that the dislike for free agency was reported by ESPN and the local sports guy, the local guy elaborated more in detail regarding Westbrook, who has been rumored to want to get back to LA.
It's going to be interesting.

Thanks for responding to my post. Interesting stuff indeed....and would make KD's decision much easier.

Well, hopefully you're not pulling our leg. Seems like it would be tough for anyone to know his decision a week before free agency starts...I'm not trying to attack you. I just don't know your history on stuff like this.

I hear ya. I probably shouldn't have posted so certainly in my original post. I was sure he'd sign with OkC 1+1, as most were. When I heard my info I was baffled (still am), but we all know how things can change

likashing wrote:Wild idea, if Durant chooses he can keep Livingston, Iguodala, and Bogut this season. He will need to sign a 1+1 and gets paid $17m for this season.
In the next summer, there is another cap jump. Steph's cap hold is a low $16.4m. I have run some rough numbers and we will have cap to re-sign Durant starting at $35m (35% max), have ~$18m cap to re-sign/re-tool some of Bogut/Iguodala/Livingston/re-tool, THEN re-sign Steph for his 30% max contract.
For Durant, he is giving up only ~$9m (making $17m this season instead of his 30% max of ~$26m), but he gets to be on this team headlined by these players:
Bogut
Green
Durant
Klay
Steph
Iguodala
Livingston
In 2017 summer he will still get his 35% (if he chooses) and Steph/Klay/Green will still be there. That is 4 All-Stars and 2-3 All-NBA players.
Compare this to OKC, which chose to not keep 3 25% max players and let Harden go. Durant will be 35% max and Westbrook will get his 30% max. They are already paying Kanter big money. Adams 25% max is coming up, if I were Durant I wouldn't feel warm and fuzzy about how OKC can keep Adams along with other pieces e.g. Ibaka + Kanter to stay a contender giving their track record of letting Harden go.
Like Durant says, it will be a basketball decision and I believe we provide him the better basketball answer vs OKC.
I posted this elsewhere. Durant can do a 1+1 and take a one-time hit of ~$9m so Bogut/Iguodala/Livingston stays. We have cap for his 35% max next season.
With this in place, if OKC and Barnes mutually want each other, Durant can make more with a Barnes sign and trade.

I think the players' union would have a conniption if Durant signed for that much below market value. When Lebron did it a few years ago in going to Miami, it was only $1-2M below the max (as were Bosh and Wade).... That's minimal. No way Durant could take $9M below market - every other front office would use it as a benchmark. The union would definitely intervene in some way.
