He would be great in Portland. Their team is actually pretty fun, kind of hope he goes there. No disrespect to Miami fans.

I've been figuring all year they'll make a push for him. They need a primary big.

CJ McCollumn started recruiting Whiteside almost immediately after the season ended for them, so definitely no surprise the Blazers are probably making him their primary FA target.

Highly doubt the Blazers beat out other suitors for the top free agents, but I'd be ecstatic if they could sign Whiteside.

I thought Howard would be in play for Portland but this makes even more sense. That is a very good fit for both sides.

As mentioned he's going to have a long line of suitors wanting him at the max amount. Portland will just be one of them in line. It will take quite the sales job to sway him to whichever team he decides on.

Portland is my favorite team out West, next to the T-wolves. I'm surprised KD hasn't considered them more. Hassan would be great though. Hope he goes there.

The title is a bit misleading, there's nothing suggesting he's heading to Portland, simply that they are interested, like almost every team with max space this summer, considering he's basically 2nd on every team's wish list after Durant.

Whiteside is the type of player I'd stay far away from. Low basketball IQ, poor foot speed, not a great p&r defender, lazy at times. Just because you can dunk and block shots doesn't make you a great player. Hear me Josh Smith?

Will never happen, but Blazers could fit both KD and Whiteside this year with a single trade (Davis or Aminu for capspace, probably not hard given their contracts).

Blazers could run Lillard/McCollum/Durant/ANYONE/Whiteside with one of Davis/Aminu on the bench + Plumlee and Crabbe (resigned after other deals).

Again, never will happen, but that is a good superteam.

Well the Heat only have 5 players (Dragic, Winslow, Richardson, Bosh, McRoberts) under contract so that's not a problem. The tricky part is trying to do more than just re-signing the whole team they had from last season.

There are cap holds on other players (like Wade). Can they sign whiteside to a max with those cap holds in place?

They indeed can but they wouldn't have enough room for another significant piece, which is something Riley wants. So unless Wade takes a big pay cut or they move Dragic, there won't be any other major moves if they were to max out Whiteside.

They can? I thought they had to renounce Wade to give whiteside the max.

KD is one of those chip on his shoulder kinda guys, I don't think he'd ever forgive Portland for picking Oden over him.

Yeah, they had to do something funky before they could offer him a full max I thought. But that was before the cap came in a bit higher than people were expecting, so I'm not sure if that helped them at all or not.

The Portland Trail Blazers definitely need an upgrade from Plumlee because he sucks.

And Whiteside would be perfect for them.

Miami has plenty of cap space. They have been planning to have space this year for many years. They weren't planning on having to max a d-leaguer to keep him though

so maxing Whiteside is not a problem. paying Wade a lot in addition isn't a problem. Getting someone else after that will be difficult.
