I get that some teams will use analytics and realize X player shoots best from this/that side of the court, at this/that distance. But so many variables come into play like what's X player's energy/health at the time, are they hot/cold, is Y defender good/bad. It's harder to translate money ball style of managing on basketball teams.

And at the end of the day analytics doesn't ensure success because (like the Daryl Morey model) the Warriors kept a high volume of 3 all series and lived with the results. A weaker percentage at the 3 was still equivalent to the Cavs higher percentage from 2. But then you fail to consider frequency of fouls drawn in the paint from Cavs drives (ie: Curry) and long rebounds off Warriors misses that lead to fast breaks (Cavs feasted).

And WTF does Lacob mean by artificial intelligence to help them make the right move? Is he just simulating NBA2K games on expert mode?

Sure he can be cocky because he is rich and his team is one of the elites, but one can also be rich and have a great basketball team and be humble and well-liked by others outside of the org.

Warriors did not invent smallball, but they did invent the "3ball first" mentality. the suns for example always looked for a fast bucket, but mostly for layups and dunks, second option was the kickout. also the magic with Dwight at C were smallball with a stretch4 like Rashard Lewis. but thats not the topic, Lacob is on a steady altitude flight.
