We drafted the guy that went to Super Cuts

Deyonta Davis, Please
Given what's left, I hope we pull the trigger on Deyonta Davis. I think Tom Izzo was at the practice facility when Denzel Valentine visited the Clippers.

Clippers Draft Brice Johnson
I'm really conflicted with this pick. Like I said, I like the guy as he was one of my very early targets but this reads like another Bullock selection. We seem to have passed on promising upside again for a higher floor guy with a lower ceiling. Deyonta Davis was a projected lottery pick as was Skal Labissiere. Even Korkmaz is seen as a promising prospect who can pay off in a few years.
He should be better than the Bullock pick with a Taj-Gibson-like game but he or Ben Bentil likely would have been available with our 2nd-round pick. Wilbon is comparing him to Rasheed Wallace, but I don't quite see it. I have to say that I'm disappointed and numb from the disbelief. It may take a day or two for me to come to terms with my feelings on this.

Ah, Mike Dunleavy, Sr.'s Yaroslav Korolev Initiative. At least it wasn't Ben Bentil as it was rumored and likely pushed by God Shammgod and his associates. Given what we passed up on, Doc better play this kid right off the bat.

Re: NBA Draft
Well our 2nd round pick is coming up. Should we go with a guard or best available?

Boston is drafting Deyonta Davis and sending him to Memphis, league sources tell The Vertical.

Deflated Draft View
Ranma wrote:
Frashchilla points out that the quality of available college players is lacking in this draft class and what does Doc do? He drafts a college senior albeit one I happen to like. Even when he gets players I like, Doc somehow finds a way to make me dislike the way he did it. Brice Johnson was not anywhere on the consensus BPA list when the Clippers drafted him, so it plays like another Reggie Bullock pick where the priority was getting the polished upperclassmen from a proven program (both Bullock and Johnson are Tar Heels, by the way). Even C.J. Wilcox was an older prospect drafted out of the University of Washington.
The more Doc talks of change, the more things stay the same. It's like he'll say things we want to hear and even go through the motions of bringing in more prospects to evaluate, only to fall back to old comfortable habits. It's like he's stubborn to keep trying it his way with his formula for taking action waiting to hit eventually so that he can point to his lone success and proclaim, "See? My way works!" This is why I criticize him for his process when the results leave us wanting.
I want to like this pick, especially since I like Brice Johnson in a vaccuum, but Deyonta Davis exhibits a lot of the same skills and production that Johnson does while having bigger upside. I'm not exactly sold on Labissiere but he was seen as another high-upside proposition as a projected lottery pick. Furkan Korkmaz may not be immediately available but he has the upside to be a valuable player with his shot and athleticism if we exercised some patience. It's not like Doc plays his polished rookies, anyway. Like I said, there is no excuse whatsoever for Doc not to play Brice Johnson at this point. The benefit-of-the-doubt well has long gone dry. If Johnson becomes another disappointment or any of the aforementioned prospects becomes a stud, Doc should be banned from the league. Period. Nevermind continuing as coach or GM. There were plenty of options and indicators for him to do better. No excuses. None.
Johnson couldn't have been the guy we were targeting to trade up for...was he? Johnson was much more likely to fall into the 2nd round instead of being selected in the mid-teens. A comparable player in Ben Bentil was likely to be available at 33rd overall as well should we have missed out on him. Doc also talks a big game with regards to trades only to come up short yet again. That's all he does: talk about lofty goals without executing them capabably.
