Can Sarver possibly not re-sign McD after this?

Last year, we beat 10 teams and took unquestionably the steal of the draft, Devin Booker.

This year, we fleeced Sacramento and got away with Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss. (i can't get over how cool this still is)

Two years ago, we got T.J. Warren, who is everything he was advertised to be.

2013 was questionable, and so was the famous 2014 deadline, but who cares?

McD took over a rebuilding team. I think we can make the playoffs this year, but everyone else would tell you we're still rebuilding. Let's assume they're right. It usually takes a lot longer than three years, and yet we've accumulated as many assets as most teams accumulate in 6 or 7 years! If Butler or Cousins comes into play, we're one of 3-5 franchises that'll get a call.

So has McD been about as good as you can find? **** yes! Has he made mistakes? **** yes! We didn't get enough for IT, but who cares? Now we have the NEXT IT!!!!!!

So I love McD, as I always have, and I'll never doubt him until a trade is final.

The truth is that if we keep outdrafting the league, it doesn't matter what moves we make, as long we don't completely lose our minds. If we keep outdrafting the league, we don't have to make another trade. We will build a contender if we keep drafting like this.

I'm beyond stoked, as you should be.

This is definitely a confidence move by McDonough on the last year of his contract to take on 2 high ceiling project players in one draft with a rookie coach. I'm pretty optimistic right now, which I can't say I've been in awhile.

Hopefully Sarver is on board to keep McD but after this draft, he must be. I hope he doesn't demand we do something to make the playoffs in free agency and consider it a failure on McD's part if we don't.

I hope so too, I'm excited to see what McD makes happen in the offseason, and can't wait for Summer League to get going. It seems like McD is owning up to some of the mistakes he's made and wants to bring the Suns out of the mud, and I think bringing in Chriss and Bender will help a lot for our future.

If Knight will embrace a bench role we are set. If not, we have to trade him. Some ideas:

PHI for LAL pick returned
LAL for Russell (Knight is a better SG next to Clarkson)
CHI for future 1st

Let's hope McD can keep up his streak of fleecing teams and get something nice and shiny in return for Knight, if we decide to trade him. Free Agency is the perfect time to move him if we do, teams will start seeing Conley get like $25MM, Lin get $12+MM, etc. and suddenly Brandon Knight doesn't look so bad anymore.

I'd love to find some way to get another draft pick next year, preferably in the lottery

ChadFord:

"The Suns landed the top two stretch power forwards in the draft in Croatia's Dragan Bender and Washington's Marquese Chriss. Power forward was their biggest need and they added two very talented players.

Chriss is the freakiest athlete in the draft. Bender one of the most skilled players, especially at his size (7-1). They'll be able to play together in some lineups.

Based on pure talent haul, the Suns won the night."

Knight staying on this team absolutely hinges on his willingness to accept a 6th man role. If not, adios Felicia.

Puff wrote:It will be interesting to see what we do from this point.

I can see us signing Mirza to a 3 year deal and maybe Leurer to a 2 year deal. I hope this takes Barnes out of the equation.

I would make Ronnie Price an assistant coach.

If neither Len or Chandler are moved I'd let Mirza go get overpaid and maybe being back Leuer on a 1-yr deal. Remember TJ can play some 4 if need be. Don't sign any FA's past a 1-yr deal and save the cap space...

I wouldn't mind a semi-tank where the young guys get a lot of PT. Chandler would probably be traded if that were the case.

A video previewing Ulis. This kid to me could a big steal for us, he can flat out play. Outside his lack of size physically, he has pretty much everything you want in a PG. I think he's got definitely starter potential too.

I know nothing about Ulis other than that he's a good PG but is also only 5'10 150lbs. Didn't know he was THAT good. Do you consider him a steal or do you think his draft position is about right?

I'm caught between a B- and C+ so I went with a B. I'm rooting for Bender, Chriss and Ulis and I'll probably defend them for the longest, but they've got a lot to prove. Bender and Chriss are still growing and learning, Ulis needs to prove he can ball in the pros. It very attractive on paper, but we need to see it on the court.

This is a grade that could skyrocket depending on how well they do, but they're all pretty risky picks that may not pan out.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

He's too small to start, there's just too many big pgs that would bully him. But he certainly could be a nice backup especially if he develops a consistent 3. I would have stayed away because his size scares me but the dude has talent and a great feel for the game. At 34 it's a fine pick; hope he works out.

so i was looking for Chad Ford's draft grades, and what do i find?

Chad Ford's draft grades, from 2003. some of these are hilarious: http://espn.go.com/nbadraft/d03/story?id=1573414

"Wade was the most ready to contribute now, and that was important to Riley. He should be able to step in right away and play together with Eddie Jones. The only knock on the pick is that Wade won't give them much-needed perimeter shooting. But his athleticism, defense and maturity make up for that."

"David West is a solid pick. He'll contribute a little in year one, get some rebounds and block some shots. He's a poor man's P.J. Brown."

"[Luke] Walton is the smartest player in the draft and you know what Jackson thinks of smart players. He could end up playing point forward for the team in year one."

lolol and some LeBron kid too

They had one hell of a draft.

It will be interesting to see how they build their team. They're in a very similar situation as the Suns, a lot of young talent and some total question marks on big contracts. If Chandler can come back strong, Gallo stays healthy, Barton plays like he did last year, and Faried rounds into form, they can make some noise in the West.

If their youth takes some big steps, they could be a 6 seed.
