I wonder if Masai only drafted him because he is african, and was likely in one of his camps lol.

I hope the kid proves me wrong and becomes a good role player, but I'll be salty about this for a few days. Could have had Skal or Davis as well...sigh

Just to answer your question. Don't think he's going to be a star but plenty of solid players I didn't list as well.

Yeah, I think he will have a solid career as a role player /first big off the bench. I was only asking because people keep bringing up the fact that his numbers were inflated based on the level of competition. This list should nullify any of those silly arguments. Thanks for the reply

Very good starting list with the exception of Thompson who played at a P5 school. Although all those conferences (The Big West, Patriot, Ohio Valley, Southern) are better than the current version of the WAC. Although to be fair to Siakem, New Mexico St is clearly the class of the WAC and could play in much more competitive conferences. They really got destroyed in conference realignment and I am not sure why they have not moved to another Western Conference.

A few others off the top of my head:

Paul Millsap
Jeremy Lin
George Hill
Hassan Whiteside

Anyone from Gonzaga (Although they try hard to test themselves as often as possible out of conference)

Skal and Davis had huge red flags.

Paskal has similar potential to them, has the excellent physique and put up better numbers than either player.

The difference being Skal and Davis played on big time teams and everyone knows them. Paskal played against lesser talent but dominated.

It says a lot that both those guys were on the board but Masai still went with Paskal. That says a lot to me. I wonder just how high they actually had him on their draft board.

First off I am not trying to negative. I do like the pick. I just stated a factual comment regarding his PER being #2.

Playing in the WAC does not mean he cannot be a good player, although they are rare from year to year.

But it will definetely have a very nice impact on his stats. And while those on the list did not play in P5 conferences, the majority did not play at schools with an SOS nearly as bad as 277 out of 351 schools. Look at the top 5 scorers each year in the NCAA for the past 20 years to see that where you play matters -- you would have never heard of the majority of the players.

The real art of drafting players from smaller schools is having that eye for talent, because many without next level talent can put up numbers in the WAC, Northeast, SWAC for example. And in that regard I trust Ujiri. I actually like the pick quite a bit.

I read that they were at a workout together in Buffalo and Siakam destroyed Labisierre.

I am glad we passed on Skal. He was just not very good. The guy was terrible for UK. He put up decent per minute numbers but it was bonehead play after another that hurt the team. Sure his length got hims some blocks but he was still a defensive hole.

I think Cal gave him more minutes than he wanted to just to ensure he played enough to get a first round pick. Cal was fine with him moving along because he probably over recruited him this year.

High energy big who will get rebounds, block some shots and do the garbage work.

Difference is Faried does it really really well and we don't know how well Paskal will do it.

The interesting thing is the kid hasn't played a tonne of basketball, and showed dramatic improvement from first year to second year. If he keeps that learning curve going he will be a steal.

He very well could be our Faried.

Have to agree with you both.

Skal may have a decent PER in his limited minutes next year, because he will get some boards and blocks, but the boxscore does not always capture stupidity.

His body type and movement kind of remind me of Pape Sow..although my memory might be a little fuzzy

Most intriguing part about him is his learning curve. I'd have him try and pattern his game after Millsap and Green
