High energy big who will get rebounds, block some shots and do the garbage work.

Difference is Faried does it really really well and we don't know how well Paskal will do it.

The interesting thing is the kid hasn't played a tonne of basketball, and showed dramatic improvement from first year to second year. If he keeps that learning curve going he will be a steal.

He very well could be our Faried.

Siakam looks like he has better lateral movement than Faried so I think he'll be the far superior defender.

Wow he has nice crisp on point passes. His passing is leaps and bounds better than skal and Davis

This is underrated part of his game and I'm starting to see why we passed on those 2 fresh men

Siakam's been working out with Raptors legend, Darrick Martin. Trust he's absorbed some of that legend scent through osmosis.

raptors couldnt acquire serge ibaka so they drafted ibaka 2.0.

I don't see Ibaka at all. Doesn't have the shot blocking, but he has potential to be a good mobile defender with hustle. Outside of finishing around the basket and occasional jumpers/hooks/floaters, he seems like more of a project offensively. If we try to develop that part of his game (face up, passing, shooting), it would take a couple of years.

Yeah, Siakam has some promising numbers passing the ball. Skal not so much:

Skal: AST% 3.6 TO% 13.1
Siakam: AST% 12.0 TO% 10.0

next year we should start at the end of the 2nd round and work our way backwards when analyzing prospects. There's still a chance it could be a player not mocked, but at least we'll be more prepared for the unexpected.

i feel like a lot of these analysts they have on the board only have a few guys that they really know and are willing to push and get excited about and really know nothing about most of the other prospects... the fact that sites like draft express exist now, that really go in depth breaking down the strengths and weaknesses of each player and the advancement of analytics in being able to assess player value, a lot of these analyst dudes are becoming obsolete. we now have access to a wealth of information that frankly makes a lot of what these guys say seem pretty stupid. i wonder why they still have these relics on there to give us some generic cold reads on players they know nothing about, when they might as well segway to draft express reports that actually give us legitimate useful information on each player.

jay bilas says he's not a great athlete, meanwhile the guy is explosive with really long arms and has a 36 inch vert... for a guy thats a 6'9 pf, a 36 inch vert is pretty **** great... they're raving about chriss being such a great and explosive athlete, meanwhile his vert is only two inches more at 38 and has a little less wingspan and reach and is around the same height... its odd...

I find it funny how there has been talk of certain players on here for weeks...like skal, davis etc. And now that we draft this maybe never playbin the nba guy, there are people talking about hiw his potential is higher than everyone elses...passing game is better...better defender. .better athlete...etc....yet no one mentioned his name

If he was a for certain better player wouldnt thw cant miss analytics that show how awesome poeltl is also be showing how great this no-one is?

I'm happy with this pick. He seems to be a hustler, great energy, rebounding and ability to block shots. Great measurements and advanced stats. Ofc he played in a weaker conference and he's a bit older. But he didn't play organized basketball before college so this means he has a lot of room to develop. Plus he looks like an exciting player if you look at the highlights :)

Really ? You just couldn't resist, could you ??

Rumours has it that Jacob Poeltl is also African decent ! He just happened to be light skin!

Here's something else for you to chew on son:
Turn back the clock 10 years....if Bargnani wasn't from Italy would Colangelo pick him ? Or wait, you weren't born yet so you couldn't have asked that question ! Never mind!

lol pretty sure these insinuations were made many times on the forum back then.

I like Siakam. Not sure what the team's plan for him is, but i'd hope they work on his defense and turn him into a Bismack-ish type player.

He's got that similarly high motor, high rebounding, energy and hustle, with what seems like a decent ability to make putbacks and score a few buckets. If we can turn him into 75% of the defensive player Bismack was with us, and maybe 80% the rebounder, with a better ability to make put-backs, he'd be a pretty damned decent pickup and pretty damned decent backup C.
