The Grizzlies Select #17 Wade Baldwin

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Fri Jun 24, 2016 2:12 am

The Grizzlies select PG Wade Baldwin from Vanderbilt. Not too bad of a pick. The Grizzlies get a tall PG who's capable of setting up his teammates, capable of perimeter scoring, solid defense. He will have to get better on building his potential as a PG in the league. Could he be a backup for Mike Conley in this upcoming season or will he be a future replacement?

Excellent pick at 17. Should be a great back-up at minimum. His PG abilities and lack of athleticism are the main concern, but his build, length, and shooting are all great attributes.

Should be a stong defender and insurance in case Conley leaves. Solid draft night for the Grizzlies

I really like the pick too. I've been hoping for Baldwin or Valentine for a while. I think they're going to use him more as a 2 guard who can take ball handling duties from Conley to allow him to spot up more often. Harrison, Baldwin, Munford, I think we have a nice trend going.

The good news is the team is getting younger. The concerning news is what's waiting around the corner in July when Free agency period begins.

3&D, pass a bit, got size, can play SG. Very nice. Should fit well with Lin if Conley leaves.

I have my doubts that Jeremy Lin will be coming to the Grizzlies anytime soon. If anything, he'll probably return to Charlotte.

Why? It seems like he is looking for a starting opportunity somewhere. If Conley leaves, one would open up. Unless Kemba is traded, he won't be a starter in Charlotte.

The way Lin plays strongly suggest he would make a great 6th Man candidate. His ability to score would make a difference for playoff teams if place in the right system.

That is true. But most (including himself) think he would be even better if starting and be in the right system. He is a pass first PG afterall IMO. It's not natural for him to be a gunner even tho he did fine. He's at his best running PnR with a great finishing roll big surrounded by shooters. He is saying things that suggest he is looking for a starting gig. Well, so if it opens up in Memphis, he just might sign up! 8-)

(him and Wright could be a good combo)

Wait, I just recall that I think last year there was rumor that the Grizzlies were offering Lin a contract but Lin decided it wasn't good enough and would be better to wait for the cap raise. Well, things have surely changed but I'd guess the interest is still there.

That all depends on what happens with Mike Conley when the free agency period begins Friday. I recalled earlier on ESPN radio today is that word from Lin's camp is that he's demanding 16 million a season. That's a lot of money to spend especially when teams are shopping around for key players and role players alike. And with the salary cap rising, the numbers getting thrown at the players will become ridiculous.

Holy smoke! 16! Never imagined that! It was 8, and then 10; 12 was the last we heard. I guess the cap raise is really something.

You're right, Conley would be the first domino; if he's gone, Lin would make a lot of sense in Memphis.

Late post, but we could only go by the stats in the paper. This game was blackout.

Word around the water cooler is he has been up and down and Harrison has been more steady.
