Pretty sure any other big pieces would have been mentioned by now. More likely we obtained cash and a 2027 second round pick...that we'll trade for cash.

The Kings, who drafted Isaiah Thomas and DeMarcus Cousins, also just decided to combine their names and drafted Isaiah Cousins with 59.

Who the heck knows what's going on in that dysfunctional franchise? They probably just jumble names in a hat and pick them out.

I wouldn't try to find any rhyme or reason there :lol:

Hawes was drafted by Kings. A center. Kings will not take m back.

Hawes burnt bridges in Sacramento when he was openly rooting for the Kings to be moved to Seattle. No chance he goes back there.

This is not a bad trade and could prove to be a great one! The Kings had Belinelli buried behind other shooters on the Kings and when given the opportunity, he had some very good games for a guy that is making a very low salary. This enables Charlotte to worry about other positions and bring Belinelli off the bench as a 6th man.

The biggest reason this trade was done is because he comes at a bargain price. If he tested the market today, he'd pull in 10mil/year.

Another positive from this is that Belinelli is also good trade bait if Charlotte was looking to bring in a star.

He did have 4 games with 20+ points scored last season, so he did produce when given the chance.

weren't we one of the youngest teams in the playoffs last year? I guess, it could still work out.

Cho needs to finish the job though

I was out tonight and missed the draft, so I'm just now digesting this. Glancing offhand at when people got drafted, I see #10, #14, #15, and #17 on our big draft board were available at 22.

The Kings have Cousins, Koufos, WCS, and Papagiannis at center now. You have to figure either Koufos or Papa are coming this way. We were rumored to be interested in drafting Papagiannis and DX moved him to 22 right before the draft. That pick would make a lot more sense if that's the plan.

they got Papagiannis in a seperate trade, if we were getting him they could've just done a 3-way trade and Koufos makes 8m per year, cutting into our cap space even more.

they will play Cousins at PF with WCS at C and Koufos backing up with Papagiannis being developed in the D-league probably.

Only way that would make any sense would be if it were Cauley-Stein coming our way - but can't see that working with the money being what it is.

There are two primary reasons why I think there is more going on here than we know about.

(1) Timing of the trade. There was no reason to make that trade when we did if there were no broader implications. The pick was not going to get less valuable as the night went on, and we traded it before we had any idea of who would be there. To me that suggests that a broader transaction is at play. Also, we never trade our picks for established players (that's been a basic Cho principle since he got here) so a draft night trade just for Belinelli seems like an odd shift.

(2) Cap space. We know we want to retain our FAs and that most if not all of them want to stay. We know that on draft day we were actively looking for ways to move the pick to help us open up space. Trading just the pick and taking back salary does not make sense in light of those facts.

what more could there be though?

the Kings dont need Lamb or Hawes, plus including one of them wouldn't help us anyway in this trade.
us taking back more salary doesn't make sense either, we need more cap space not less.

the only potential addition to this trade that could make sense is a future pick from SAC.

I'm surprisingly ok with it, but I guess I just like Bellinelli. If he hits in the upper .300 or .400 from three we probably won't mind this trade. I'm not a huge fan of the win now at all costs. I would have liked to see us pick a raw player and try to develop someone. This wasn't a deep draft.

Decent theory from HP: Grizz were linked to Richardson, Kings to Baldwin. They ended up on opposite teams. Extrapolating on that, perhaps a 3-team deal will materialize in July.

Hornets In: Belinelli, ???
Hornets Out: 22 (Richardson), Lamb/Hawes

Kings In: 17 (Baldwin)
Kings Out: Belinelli, ???

Grizz In: 22 (Richardson), Lamb/Hawes
Grizz Out: 17 (Baldwin)

this probably is all the pieces involved. they view marco as a cheaper lee replacement and we know they liked him quite a bit from last offseason.

To me the only reason that I'm at all skeptical that there is a larger transaction involved is because I can't think of a reason why the whole thing couldn't have gone down last night. If it was just Lamb or Hawes + 22 for Belinelli + pick, the salaries work and we wouldn't have to wait. Seems like someone would have to be taking on more salary for this to make sense, so it's more then just taking on Hawes or Lamb.
