another Chinese center got drafted 57th overall by Memphis; Wang Zhelin 7'0, 250 22 years old
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Been gone most of the night.

WE GOT ZHOU QI!!!

I think that I'll update all of the trades tomorrow. I'm catching up on Brexit news tonight.

Someone going to start a thread welcoming our new Rockets?

Little did I realize that all of my years studying Central & Eastern Europe would come in so handy as an NBA fan!

And I'm going to guess that the guy you just named is pronounced Vilt-jyear unless it's Americanized to Wilt-year.

This is probably highest number of foreign born guys drafted ever. a continued trend.

My deeper take on Zhou going through his games here
https://onebasketblog.wordpress.com/2016/06/21/zhou-qi-scouting-report/

The weight thing is probably overstated, for one thing he's much more PF than C, he does move fast enough to cover PFs most of the time. assuming he improves his technique.

It's actually the techniques on defense that worries me most, especially rebounding but a lot of other aspects, he either can pick that up or he can't. it probably won't take 2-3 years to find that out.

His contract situation is interesting, originally said buyout after next season but now some report say maybe this year he'll come over, If I'm the Rockets I get him over ASAP, it's unlikely he develops in the direction they want him to remaining in China and I don't like the playing time pattern his CBA team used him in.

Offensively he figures to be a high floor guy with some potential ceiling, a pretty dead bang shooter for 20 feet and hit 9 out of 15 3s this year. if teams just let him shoot he'll knock it down regularly. he's also quick and have some off the dribble game to attack close outs as well. his passing is a bit more mixed, likes to try and hit cutters from top of the key, but mixed results. usually not far off though.

MDA surely can make him useful on that end, I have no worry about that he should at worst be a servicable big on offense.

The defensive end is where the variation literally swings from DPOY to unplayable, his shot blocking is legit special in every way, but other fundamentals of his defense is suspect compound by the weight issue. it's unlikely he can be this good at shot blocking while being dumb on defensive awareness, seem to me most likely that it's just bad coaching / team, (then again, the current Rockets coach / team doesn't exactly inspire the greatest confidence in those aspects. but still obviously an improvement.)

At his best, he could be shot blocking monster who's a really useful complimentary player on offense.

The way he fail is probably because he can't stay on the floor defensively due to weight or general awareness.

I LIKE THE BIG Chinese young man pick. I think he looks like he has enough skills to be a solid player in 2 or 3 years with an additional strength and conditional training regime . Gary Payton Jr is what I really like.He has the same qualities Bev brings but with more athletic prowess and is much younger.I think he can super seed Bev next season even if Beverley is a Rocket by then(which is a even bet right now).

My guess we will see some trades after we see who we can net or not net in the free agent market. Beverley and Ariza are the most likely chips that teams will bite on. Brewer has very little value and KJ is still raw.

Not to familiar with any of these guys really aside from Onuaku and spent most of the night reading about Brexit.

Onuaku fits the high iq type player we need. His hands are amazing and he can really pass the ball! Looking forward to watching him & DMo on the court together killing opponents with ball movement.

Zhou looks like a taller poor mans version of Andrei Kirilenko and Glove jr. a poor mans Westbrook so im very excited to have the both of them!

Nice write-up, I felt the same way about him. Ahe has a really low floor but at 43 it's worth the risk

He can't really shoot though. I think he's basically just Nick Johnson without the dynamic ball handling and with better passing

He's 6'10 and can shoot lights out. Shot way over 40% on over 5 3PAs per game. Has a little post game too. But if he makes the team he would be one of the absolute worst defenders in the NBA, he is way too slow and unathletic to guard really anyone

What are the chances of gp making the team? I saw him projected as high as 32?

What are the chances of gp making the team and it making his father take a role with the team at least as an advisory thing? If so I'm going to every game on the hopes I meet him. Would be the highlight of my sad life haha, easily one of the 5 people to that answer "if you could have lunch with 5 people throughout history who would they be?"
