Tyler Ulis News, Discussion and Highlights
I have a feeling Ulis will end up a fan favorite.

Would've loved Valentine, but I really like Ulis too. Friends with Booker, good passer, feisty defender.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Ecstatic with the two PFs but I wanted Brogdon instead of Ulis...Could have done with a 'mature' rookie.

If they have a tough time or get frustrated or depressed or overwhelmed or whatever (like many others have like Kwame Brown and countless others) they can talk each other up. Plus I really think Watson is much better for two young guys like this than a guy like Thibs would be. Don't get me wrong, I think Thibs is a better and a great coach, but he is not the type of guy these guys need.
It's funny we get the three guys I talked a lot about in the draft forum...check this thread out.. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1442361
Sure, yeah. if Chriss loses confidence, Watson is there for him. If Bender gets frustrated because he's not producing, Chriss and everybody will be there.
i'm wondering if we'll actually sign Ulis. I hope so; i'd like him to get a chance to crack the rotation.
Why would we not sign Ulis? We will sign him. If we hadn't drafted a guard though, I'd be looking to add undrafted players like Payton, Baker and VanVleet to our summer league team.

In the post-draft presser, McD said they'd look to add one more guy at PF via FA, and he mentioned that Telly and Leuer are FAs who had good seasons in Suns unis.
If I had to guess, they'll re-sign Telly; I'd prefer Leuer, but Watson seemingly cooled on him last year.
I'd also love to keep Alan Williams. Guy played his heart out last year and he'd be an excellent end of the roster dude.
I'm in favor of a Knight trade, but until that happens, here's the depth chart as I see it now:
Bledsoe/Price/Ulis
Knight/Booker/Goodwin
Tucker/Warren
Teletovic/Bender/Chriss
Chandler/Len/Williams
I don't actually think Knight starting is the end of the world; he played much better next to Bledsoe than he did in any other scenario. I'd love him as the microwave guy off the bench, but maybe the best way to fully maximize Knight/Booker's production is to keep Knight paired with Bledsoe at all times. Booker can rain fire down on opposing bench units if need be.
I think Price, Tucker and Chandler will continue to play big roles in the rotation, since they're exactly the blue-collar, tough-nosed vet types that Watson salivates over.
Ideally, regardless of who starts, I'd want Booker to play more minutes than Knight, Warren more than Tucker, and Len more than Chandler.
Ulis, Bender and Chriss can rotate through the Prescott Suns and hopefully get some nice spot minutes this year with the main squad too. I hope Ulis/Booker get some real minutes together.
Archie.....man, I really don't know. There's currently no place for him in the rotation, and he'll continue to be on the outside looking in unless he makes SIGNIFICANT strides this year. He doesn't need to be a world-beater, and I know he's young, but he needs to show that he's a rotation player.
I don't care about the playoffs this season; I just want a team that's fun to watch, a team that seems like it's actually building towards something. Hard working guys who are getting better through the year...that's all I ask.
Is Price guaranteed? Ulis needs to be second guard...that makes our second unit great...bring him in with Booker.

One thing I'm confused about. Was Booker at the draft with Ulis or was he at Ulis's house with his family?

Maybe they have a Wonder Twin power that lets them get anywhere they want whenever they want. It'll come in handy on the court

Ulis could be a real sleeper pick, he is an exciting little dude. As someone already said, I could see him being a crowd favorite coming off the bench. Kid is cat quick, sets up passes very well and throws dimes, and even though small can get his shot off at will and has a nice stroke. I like the pick.

Great draft. Wanted Jackson over Ullis, but I think Ullis is probably better in the role we plan on using him.

Agreed, I would have liked Jackson too but Ulis was a good pick. Get him in the weight room with Bledsoe and you've got a back up PG that works hard on defense, plays with poise and a high iq, and knows how to run an offense and play the pick and roll.

Ulis, distributes, is a good shooter, is very quick, an excellent ball handler AND he was both player of the year and DEFENSIVE player of the year in the SEC. There is NOTHING he does not do well.
His only problem is his size.

Ulis is Isaiah Thomas with better BBIQ, better defense, better playmaking, better court vision...Man I already love this kid!
