Starting SG: Fournier vs. Oladipo

Post#1 » by MagicMadness » Fri Jun 24, 2016 7:12 pm

Which player did you want starting at SG on opening night?

I've noticed a lot of fans are unhappy that Oladipo was traded instead of Fournier or Hezonja.

Since Payton wasn't traded, you get to choose: Oladipo/Payton backcourt, or Fournier/Payton backcourt?

(Note: If you want Mario or some other SG to start, that's fine, but not what this poll is about.)

I think Vic was the better player but Evan is a better fit. So I will vote for Evan.

This is probably much closer than the poll suggests, but I too prefer Fournier. His shooting improvement has been nothing short of staggering. His next step is to improve his defensive rebounding and his shooting from 16 feet to the 3 point line. Anything else is gravy.

Evan, easy answer.
let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...

My choice is Evan, because he's a couple inches taller and a more consistent shooter.

Vic has better defense, but I think they are similar in terms of overall production. Evan is a better fit next to Payton.

And yes, I currently have an Oladipo avatar. I liked - and still like - him a lot. But he's not necessarily what our particular line-up needed, going forward. Ibaka changes things - in a good way - and Hennigan appears to favor Payton at PG going forward.

What was telling was that, in the last two seasons, the Magic looked really damn good over some stretches of games while having Fournier out on the floor. I still remember a win against Detroit two seasons ago where Evan and the Magic just whizzed the ball all around and totally dismantled them in a big win.

So whether it was his sharp shooting, his crafty all around play, or his good passing as a 2 guard.. the Magic looked very elite with him in stretches.

I don't want to disrespect Dipo here though. He's a helluva player. I'm gonna miss him. And now when I catch a few Clippers and Spurs games every year on LP, I'm gonna add OKC to that list for sure too.

But on a 5-man lineup level, it was very intriguing to see the Magic play like gangbusters in stretches, where Evan was always in those units out on the floor, and, where the ball was really being shared. It's beautiful, winning basketball.

You guys are a bunch of homers lol... Dipo is the better two way player but alongside Elf, Evan is the better fit. Voted Dipo but I can't complain about Evan. He's a great shooter with a winning attitude and tough as hell. He played through a ton of injuries last year.

fournier out played oladipo all season. Don't get me wrong i loved dip and his heart & hustle but evan is a better fit at the 2 next to payton and he is even younger then dipo. I seriously think evan can be a 20 point scorer. Now we still need to add talent but i like fournier and don't mind losing dipo because it net us the exact player we needed for this team. A defensive minded shot blocking 4, who stretches the floor and also has serious playoff experience.

I know it doesn't seem like Evan is a good Defensive Player but I have heard NBA Analysts praise his defense more than once.

Probally Evan. Fits the style of the new NBA better and is our best shooter. Victor is a very good defender though and I think he will become a better shooter than he is now. I think Fournier is a lot better defender then he gets credit for though and I think he will be above average guarding opposing SGs.

I feel like most people (myself included) just assumed Oladipo was the starting SG for next season. A lot of previous discussions about what to pay Fournier often boiled down to what we'd be prepared to pay a non-starter. So, I'm surprised to see the results as they are.

I think both players are good, but I made a post a month or two ago where I said that I think Oladipo is probably better suited to being an Igoudala super 6th man. It didn't seem to go down too well at the time. Now, everyone is saying they wanted Fournier all along.

Since we are voting for either a player on the team or player no longer on the team, I'm voting for prime Tracy McGrady.

Oladipo is abit better player but Fornier fits the team much bettter. Problem is that both will get paid 20+ mil soon and it is smarter to do with player that actually fits the team.

A lot of people are now going to vote Fournier just because Dipo is no longer on the team. We did have to choose between the two though, so it is what it is. Dipo was one of our best players, even if we force fed him more than we should have, but I'd say we're lucky we are left with a SG that can shoot and finish very well in the wake of of the trade. Fournier could be huge for us next season

Mind says Evan, heart says Dipo

Evan is the proto-SG minus the defense. 6'7ish 3point shooting with abilityies to drive and pass(sometimes) should be the SG

However it is Dipo , although shorter than the norm at 6'4-6'5ish who has the athletic ability and highlight dunks that makes me want irrationally to be the SG.

His size, shooting, and ability to finish at the rim make him my pick at SG. Victor is a better defender but we got the former DPOY in exchange so I think we'll be fine on that front.
