Re: 2016 Offseason Thread -- Not (just) #KD2DC
I don't see anyway Noah can command a max deal, or even a four year deal, after missing as much time as he did the past two seasons. There is no market for him. He's like the fifth or sixth best C in this FA class.
Not to mention losing Nene is not impetus for us signing Noah like that article states. They don't even realize that Nene was a back up for us. And they don't realize that Gortat is our starting C. Everyone's BS meter should be going off.
That said I actually am not opposed to bringing in Noah as our third big. But for like 10 million a year on a short deal, not for a **** max deal. That is absolutely absurd.

I am coming out of RealGM hibernation just to state that I will be ending my 29-year run as a Wizards fan if Joakim Noah is involved with this team. As a child, I was a big fan of Yannick Noah as a tennis player. As an adult, I loathe Joakim Noah with every fiber and sinew of my being. I am not a violent person, but every trash-talking, smug-faced, hair-flying, chest-beating morsel of that man makes me want to smash the TV screen upon which I am watching him into bajillions of tiny shards. There have been no more satisfying recent moments of fandom than watching Nene humiliate Joakim Noah over and over and over.
And at a max contract? No, no, no, no, no. Done. Signing off. May this never come to pass.

I'd be fine with Noah on a cheap 2-year deal, if we can't land a young-ish backup C. At a minimum, Noah can teach the other bigs how to set a moving screen without getting caught -- which, as we saw in the Finals, is a critical component to success in the current NBA.
Noah, Tristan Thompson, and Bogut could start up a Pete Newill-esque big man camp based solely on their skill in setting moving screens.

Yeah it has to be bogus. Gortat has been good and durable. He is our starting C and Noah at the 4 would just cause spacing problems.
Plus EG seems to be convinced that Morris is actually good.

This hassssssss to be bull. I mean there's absolutely no way this can be true, right? If it is, and I've never said this before, I'm done with the team for the foreseeable future. Not worth the time.

Also, it's far too early (a week before FA starts) for a rumor to come out about the Wizards that has an actual basis in fact. Ernie & Co. are pretty good at keeping a lid on things.
It's fun to make jokes, but this would be very unlike Ernie.

So Durant has his first three visits scheduled, and they don't include our Wizards. Its the Spurs, Warriors and Thunder. I put the chances of him joining the Wiz near zero, but it would be nice to at least get a visit. Maybe we'll be tier 2 or 3.

The fact that KD is meeting with OKC's biggest rivals should be really concerning if I'm Presti.
Pop and Duncan convinced Aldridge last summer rather convincingly.
Warriors just beat his team a month ago.?

So what's plan B Ted and Ernie? It's understandable that Durant isn't coming here, but not even a visit? Maybe Brooks and Ted can visit him so Ted can show him pictures of the new practice/Mystics digs.

Why is it a "wow" that Durant isn't meeting with the Wizards? Why would he meet with the Wizards?
Why do we need a "Plan B" -- we don't have a "Plan A." No one in his right mind would make a long shot like signing Kevin Durant his "Plan A".
"everything we effing sacrificed" -- ? -- what did we sacrifice? We didn't sacrifice anything. And anyway, is that how you get the top FAs interested? By sacrificing a lot?

Re: 2016 Offseason Thread -- Not (just) #KD2DC
Again, assuming Horford, Whiteside, and KD all sign elsewhere, then 2018 has to be the focus.
While 2017 is the Greatest FA class ever, we cant afford to surround Wall, Beal, and Co with a bunch of 1 year contracts again.
And while 2018 will have less talent, the salary cap explosion will have stopped at about 110M and there wont be near as much money around as there is in the 2016 and 2017 offseasons.
So here is the mission, Find the best 2 year deals 25M in cap space can buy (We have 32M, but subtract 7 for Sato and cap holds)...
Backup Centers:
Noah - Who the hell knows now
Nene - In shape, he's an elite backup 5
Mozgov - Still productive despite reduced minutes last year.
Cole Aldrich - Huge fan, but he had a really good year and is about to turn 28. He'll get 3 years probably
Jordan Hill - Might be a buy low if Mahinmi outshines him
Mahinmi - Great year last year, but has been terrible offensively 2 of the 3 years before last. Regression?
Stretch 4:
Marvin Williams - Same boat as Deng, my top choice. He's played 1/3 less career minutes and was excellent last year.
Deng - Great compliment to Morris, old enough to take 2 year deal.
Tolliver - Has been constantly good the last 3 years playing PF. 37.8% 3Pt shooter
Backup Pg / Other:
Brandon Jennings - Ehhh
Eric Gordon - Intriguing, but not needed with Beal, Sato, and McClellan.
Bayless
Augustin
Sessions
I throw most of my money at Williams or Deng. If they hesitate, I sign Tolliver and throw the money to Noah or Aldrich. Sign whichever of Bayless, Augustin, or Sessions will sign the best deal.
Wall / Augustin
Beal / Sato
Otto / Oubre
Morris / Tolliver
Gortat / Aldrich (Or Noah)
The names dont excite you, but there are a lot of skill sets littered in there that could be troublesome in the East. Then after 2 years of 3-5th seed appearances, you make your splash in 2018...
Obviously this assumes that Wall, Beal, Otto, etc. all improve somewhat.

I think that's a sound strategy pcbothwel.
The only thing I'd add is that I'd try and make Beal's contract a declining one to minimize his cap hit in 2018.

That isn't a 3 seed team, not even close.
