I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the idea of signing Yulieski. He would function as adding a bat at the deadline as he wouldnt be ready right away abd rumors have it that hed be ready August 1st (the new non waiver deadline).

My question is....where does he fit?
We have a 3B
We have two 2B.
We have a jillion LFs.

His agent could easily point this out to him and it could be a deterrent.

Would you have a plan for bringing him in?
Doesnt look like theres enough ABs to go around.

I read the whole Friedman article and I'm in our front office's corner 100%. If you even take a half glance at a Dodger forum online, it's split between people who hate him and people who back him....so i felt I had to say that.

I'm glad the FO didnt settle for anything less than what it wanted.

Examples of settling:
1) Having Greinke back at a number they didn't want.
2) Signing Cueto to big money with his checkered injury history.

We're in a great spot to make a deal over the next month and an even better spot to extend Kershaw and go after Jose and Otani.

well, I would say that our 1B man is already with a disk problem in his neck. our 2nd baseman is as old as my wife. our 3rd baseman is coming off of a micro frature knee surgery. there is very likely a case of an injury that will open a spot for him anywhere in the infield other than SS, which he can't play anyway.

in terms of going after a right handed pitcher, considering what it would take to pry Jose from the Fins, I am all in for Otani. he can hit 20 HRs if you give him a steady at bats as a OF and PH when he is not starting too.
ehhhhh f it.

Retrospective on Trades

Post#1485 » by Ranma » Fri Jun 24, 2016 6:52 pm

With Montas out 4-8 weeks due to a broken rib, at least we have acknowledgement from the other side that we made out in the Olivera trade. I was skeptical of Montas' health when we made the Peraza trade, but Trayce Thompson alone already made it a winner thus far.

A player getting DFA isnt funny but for some reason I kinda giggled at the Venable news.
I think part of it was seeing the Doc Rivers in Doc Roberts in bringing him on.

Man I never thought I'd say this but I cannot wait until Ethier gets back. More LFs than we can count but his offense will help.

Sidenote:
Worst luck in the world on Montas. I almost want to have the MLB investigate the Sox for it.....almost...
edit:
The Montas news takes away our (mine really) element of surprise of adding an electric bullpen piece from within this 2nd half.
We will probably need to trade for it now.
One of our players anonymously stated yesterday that we cannot let the Giants or Cubs get Andrew Miller. It's the most indirect way of calling out our front office and I don't like it but that's all ad hominem. That player could be right.

Progress by Dodger Batters in Throwaway Game

Post#1487 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 25, 2016 6:23 am

I missed the game due to Day 1 of the NHL Draft, but apparently Tepesch's pitching put us in an early hole that we couldn't quite climb out of. Man, the Kings trading away the past two years' 1st-round picks for a non-impact rental (Andrej Sekera) and impending free agent (Milan Lucic) is such a letdown. Dean Lombardi should have known better but he was desperate to compete for the Stanley Cup even though it was clear that the team has run out of gas. Lombardi was hoping that we'd wake up once the playoffs started but this team just doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to handle the grind of extended playoff series during 3 postseasons during their 2-time-championship run. Giving away those picks was a Doc-like blunder. The pick traded for Lucic, in particular, was a heartbreaker since I wanted Kyle Connor that year, whom we could've otherwise drafted. The kid has been tearing it up and is currently among the NHL's top 30 prospects.

Okay, sorry about that, guys. I had to vent a bit since both Kings hockey boards that I would normally visit have been spiritually dead given our non-activity at the draft so far.

I wanted to post some signs of encouragement from our hitters during today's loss. Despite going 1-for-4 today, Joc Pederson continues to hit the ball hard. I'm disappointed that Roberts is shortchanging Trayce Thompson of his opportunities at the plate in favor of Kendrick. It's not as bad as Rollins over Seager, but still not something I want to continue beyond the All-Star break.

Since you didnt watch, you didnt know how frustrating that game was, especially since the Giants won't lose. It's like the baseball gods were just laughing at us:

1) Adrian lined the ball really hard at Cutch as well with runners at 1st and 3rd.. If that's in a gap, it goes to a wall and the bases clear.
2) Coleman....little dribbler from Marte...let it by for Seager and it just kept rolling so slow...Marte scores on a weakly hit ball that bounces just inside the LF foul line scoring Marte...hit so weak and so perfect that Turner either had NO CHANCE or it would be foul so Marte just ran for it from 2nd because he was either going to score or be back at 2nd.

While 1) is happening, it kept us behind at 7-6. The Pirates pen will let you back in but youre tempting fate not tying it with Melancon.

Nvm bringing in Hatcher with the score 7-6. The nervous gas can predictably gave up a homer and then settled down once he got his **** up out the way....but that broke our spirit imo.

edit:
IMO, Howie is swinging a hotter bat than Trayce. Trayce's hot streak is over. He deserves a chance to prove himself and play out of it but I wouldnt have risked our winning streak for it.

He got an AB yesterday....and K'd...predictably...Neftali Feliz blew the doors off of him.

I thought Adrian was trying way too hard to go the other way to beat the shift and made the situation even harder on himself. I'm afraid to say it but it feels like Adrian's power is really coming to a pedestrian level now to be a clean up hitter anymore. hopefully he catches a fire.

Coleman was really unlucky, but goddamn Nick Tepesch got hit hard in that 2nd inning. that was ugly. can't wait for Ryu and McCarthy to make it back. NIck is not going to last and Urias' pitch count is going up and up and up at this rate. oh, and speaking of the rehab assignment team that is the Rancho Coucomonga Quakes..

A-Gon's Everyday Routine

I heard during a fairly recent broadcast that Adrian doesn't like taking days off, so it could be Roberts deferring more to A-Gon's preference.

Maeda Needs to Make Adjustments

Post#1496 » by Ranma » Sun Jun 26, 2016 1:06 am

In addition to acclimating himself to 4 days of rest as a starter in the rotation, Kenta needs to overcome that mental hurdle of struggling the 3rd time through the order. As soon as he faced the Pirates in the 6th inning, he became tentative by walking the leadoff batter before giving up McCutchen's 2nd HR of the game. His fears basically produced the self-fulfilling struggles.

It's not 2013 anymore and we have entered the worst part of his contract (and the most miserable part of that Boston trade).

AJ too slow to make it home.

Runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs.
No runs.

Pardon me if I end up breaking something in this house.
