It's much harder to evaluate Furkan as compared to Luwawu. Furkan is an 18 year old sort of buried on a high level Euroleague team in Efes. A team that does not even allow a more NBA ready player like Saric to fully showcase his talents. So an even younger guy like Furkan gets relegated to a spot shooter role for only 10 minutes a night.

While Luwawu was in an ideal situation on Mega Leks, a notch lower in the the Eurocup level, where he could really showcase his talent. Mega is run by a super-agency, and is set up to showcase young talent. And Luwawu, at 21, was given minutes and a green light. Saric, 2 years ago at age 20, was in a similar situation in that same league when he was on Cibona. He really was able to play a staring role, which helped propel him into being a lottery pick.

Reading scouting reports, it sounds like Furkan is more than just a shooter. But at his current age and level of competition, the shooting is his one elite skill that is good enough to get him on the floor. And I'm not sure how much more freedom he will have at Efes in the next year or two to really grow into a more all around player (except for some of their Turkish League games when they play lesser competition.) He probably would be better served playing against more peers (like had he gone to the NCAA or signed on a Eurocup level team.)

I really like Korkmaz. I can't wait for him to build up his body, work on his game and get here. Hopefully sooner than later.

For anyone who wanted Hezonja last year.....Korkmaz is a very similar player.

Why?

Hes a lock down perimeter defender, gets steals and knocks down spot up 3's. He's an ideal fit at the 1 spot on a Ben Simmons team.

I like Bev, dude's a bulldog. Sets the tone defensively on 1's when most at that spot are just turnstiles.

Im gona go with Rudy Fernandez comp. Euro, athletic, can shoot, can pass, not sure defense will be starter material.

Rudy Fernandez was a player....He just preferred the lime light in Spain.

Furkan Korkmaz was the 26th pick by the Sixers and that was not what he hoped for. As he said, in the Turkish basketball federation site, he was expected to be picked in the Top20 of the draft.

That probably means that his future in the NBA is still unclear: “I am still in shock from the draft. I was not expecting to be drafted with the 26th pick. I was hoping to be selected in the first 20 picks. Things turned a little bit upside down. It was a very hard decision for me. I had waited until the last minute. Acrually, I kind of took some risk. I was drafted by a team that I never expected. Am I sad because of this? No, of course not. I am a player picked in the NBA draft. I will talk with my family and my agent for what would be the best decision for me”.

Considering the fact that Korkmaz’s buy out in the contract with Anadolu Efes is reported to be $ 2 million and th NBA teams are able to pay up to $650.000. Korkmaz should have been at least a lottery pick in order to be able to pay himself the rest of the buy out and to cross the Atlantic this summer due to the rookie salary scale.

Mario has him by about 30-35 pounds, though. That's one of the bigger aspects of Mario's appeal. He's an athlete with shooting skill in a man's body. If Korkmaz was more filled out than he is, I'd feel more comfortable about the pick. He's only 18, though, so there's time.

I'm definitely hoping he stays in Europe a couple more years to fill out his body and game.

Yeah, if he stays you get more value on his contact. As long as he stays less than three years.

Yeah, Furkan's body needs a lot of work. Need to be given that Embiid workout plan.

I love this pick and love it regardless of if he comes over next year or not. At first, my initial reaction was hoping he would stay there for another year or two to improve without burning years on his rookie contract. But Colangelo of all people said something really interesting about if he does come over. Here, he would have the benefit of the new practice facility, could be placed on a specific training regimen by the Sixers (including diet to add strength) and could basically play as much as needed on the D-League team. Having him in our player development system wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Based on the limited evaluations of both, I like Korkmaz better than Luwawu. I feel like he looks more natural with the ball in his hands (especially dribbling) than Korkmaz.

I do think Luwawu is the better defender though. They both need to gain substantial weight.

I think these guys will step into a great role were they only have to defend, run the floor, and hit open shots. Embiid, Simmons, and maybe Okafor should generate open looks. They probably need a legit perimeter playmaker at some point to take some pressure off Simmons. However, Korkmaz should have a nice role when he is ready,

Korkmaz does, Luwawu is 205 lb shooting guard. I'm sure TLC will naturally gain weight with maturation, but he doesn't really need to. Compare his weight to other SG's, optimally maybe 5-10 lbs eventually.

Yea, but he was pretty bad at finishing around the rim, right? He needs to be able to take the contact.
