Lin loved playing with Kemba. A fan transcribed what he said in Mandarin on reddit:

3:00 – I feel like in this year’s playoffs, I played well because Miami Heat didn’t allow us to shoot 3s. I really like to drive to the basket, so I had a lot of chances (to score). Even though we didn’t win and make it to the 2nd round, I have no regrets because I gave 100%. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
3:48 – I think it suits me. Last year, I was also a free agent. When I was considering which team to play for, Coach Clifford said he wants to play fast, up tempo and the pick and roll. When I played with Kemba, we usually played better (compared to not playing together). We were a good pairing. Last year, I really enjoyed playing basketball and was very happy.
4:27 – Me and Kemba, we can both play pick and roll and also very fast-paced. (Kemba) is really good at passing the ball. We’re a good pairing. If you look at our advanced stats and analytics, whenever me and Kemba are playing together, we’re most likely going to win the game. Off the court… best friends… Kemba really did treat me very well. Marvin Williams, Spencer Hawes, I don’t know, I can’t just pick 1 person. Last year, our whole team’s relationships were really good. Sometimes when we go out to eat, we’d bring all 15 players and eat together. In the 6 years I’ve been in the NBA, I normally don’t see everybody going out to eat together.
5:40 – If we really enjoyed being around each other, when we play ball, we’ll perform better and sacrifice for each other more. Last year, everyone thought we were going to be 12th or 13th seed in the Eastern Conference, but we came in 6th, almost getting 3rd seed.

about Jordan and the off-season (working on his shot, good idea but I hope handles and mid-range game as well)

6:27 – (Talking about the Jordan-esque shrug) After I shot the ball… it was so far right, I kept thinking “there’s no way it’s going in.” When it hit the backboard and went in, I was like (shrug) OK that was very lucky. As soon as I shrugged, I thought oh, Michael Jordan is right there. (It wasn’t preplanned) It was a natural reaction like “thanks” or “yeah, I’m lucky.” Everybody thought it was because he was sitting there or because he was my boss or because he shrugged in the past. But that’s not the case. When I made the shot, I was like OK, thanks.
7:20 – When I first arrived in Charlotte, meeting Jordan, not really nervous about meeting him, but more like, this is really cool. Because when growing up, he was my favorite player. By around December or January, I got used to it (being around Jordan). He was also my boss, so I had to play well or he’ll scold us or be unhappy. Having him around was interesting because sometimes, when I didn’t perform well, I would ask him questions and he would give me his suggestions on how to improve.
8:07 – He (Jordan) normally wouldn’t call out or scold a specific player. But if we all played badly, like around January or February, we lost 7 games in a row, he flew from Florida to Charlotte. He told us we played like crap and gave us advice, trying to help us. After that talk, we started winning again.
8:50 – This offseason, I’m focusing a lot on my shooting form. My 3 point shooting percentage went from 37% down to 33% last year. I feel if you watch this playoffs and watch Cleveland and Golden State, they all keep shooting 3s. I think that 3-pointers are very important. So if I can raise my shooting percentage, I can raise my game to the next level. So right now, I’m focusing a lot on my shooting form. I can’t (release the ball) too high or too far back, I have to release the ball more from the front.

Lin speaking at the World Economic Forum in China last night addresses free agency:

"I want to find a home. I want to see how good I can become, I'm 27 and an athlete's prime at least in the NBA is usually 27-30 that's when you kind of peak, physically, mentally and that's where most players perform their best and so I'm going into my prime and I want to see how great I can be as a player and that's my purpose in free agency...I'll just exhaust every opportunity to see which one will be the best for me."

a) Lin feels he's peaking (you many disagree), but does a player in his prime, who feels he can and should start, test how good he can become from the bench?
b) Can Lin test his limits for greatness as a 20 minute bench role player after MKG returns?
c) After a season calling CLT home, does it sound like Lin's found a home in Charlotte?

I've said before that most athletes, and especially Lin in this case, have a need to seek self-actualization -- or as the Army says, be all you can be. Of course, the free agent environment will dictate what options are available to him. If there are no starting opportunities, "being all you can be" may mean embracing the 6th man role in Charlotte for a decent salary. But I would probably bet that Lin is gone. We'll know soon enough.

How can Lin become the best player he can off the bench? Being a bench player he is capped in what he can do. The talk of him improving his shooting seems good but it seems like he should have already done that.

Maybe Lin will just be a role player but you figure he would want a shot at starting again and he has mentioned this is one of the things he is looking at. I believe Lin wants to try to average decent stats over winning. Lin will not be a Knick because he would be backing up Rose.

I would really like to have Lin back. I don't think it's going to happen though. I do wish him the best no matter what happens. He's been a class act here.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I hope Lin can be sold on being our ginobli, he might not have been a starter but he sure finished a lot of games which is the important part

This might be too hard to be sold.
At the beginning of last season, Clifford tried to close games with Lamb.
After all star break, Clifford close most games with Lee.
I didn't see Lin got the Ginobli treat.
And not to mention game 7 against Heat.

Next season, with MKG back,he'll get less time for sure.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

This does discuss other teams who could use Lin but mostly discusses what Lin brings to a team with a lot of info about last season with hornets

With Bellinelli's signing, Lee is almost certainly not back. Point about MKG is right but I can also see them alternating closing role depending on opponent

I still think Hornets are most likely Lin destination - and where I would like to see him

Says Lin will meet with 3 other teams on July 1st. Now you guys can knock yourselves out trying to guess the other 3. I think we can assume the Nets are one of those 3 teams.

Nets make a lot of sense....however, it really depends on how their FO thinks about their future, Lin could be a placeholder starting PG for them.... at this point, no team would consider Lin as their franchise PG, Lin has to be playing into that role by himself...

I didn't think Lin would be any team's high priority, so very surprised he has meetings setup first thing midnight (which is 9pm PST). Figure the action would start after Conley has signed. Guessing it would be non playoff teams. Will be an exciting weekend for sure.

Could this be just Lin's agent trying to bring attention and urgency for his client?

You do know GM and Coach has several assistants? I would venture to guess he meeting with a assistant versus GM.
