Guys, the players that make the game are voted on by other players, coaches, and the all-star game manager...Often times its a popularity contest.

Never! And who would have thought Fuentes and Sanchez were so popular.

Sanchez won a batting title last year. And Fuentes, well I don't know. But if you have a good reputation around the league players are going to vote for you over someone they don't like.

^^^ Yeah I suppose you make a good point there. Sheffield is obviously not the most liked guy in baseball and he sure belongs at the game.

It's ok, Maine not an all star?

He'll just go quietly about his business and be in the race for the NL CY Young.

Brian Fuentes is out of the All-Star game. Hopefully somebody that deserves to be there gets to go.

Don't get your hopes up on that, since LaRussa is the manager and there replacing a reliever it could very well be Isringhausen or maybe even Franklin.

I hope he doesn't pitch unless absolutely needed. I'd rather preserve him for the first game back in a pivotal series vs. San Diego. We need to get back on track.

Fool, it's based on player voting.

Replacements are based on player voting? I thought it was the managers choice. I know the regular voting is starters-by the fans, replacements a combo of coaches. players and managers choices

Chris Young's 2.00 ERA and the fact that he didn't make the All-Star team is one of the biggest snub's ever. That God for that 30th man voting thing. The guy leads all of baseball in ERA, and he was the last guy voted in. WTF

Fun fact:

According to baseball-reference.com, no one named "J.J." has ever made the All Star game.

Congratulations to Messrs. Putz and Hardy for being true groundbreakers.

EDIT: Oh yes, they'll also be playing with the one and only major leaguer named "C.C." Those three should go drinking after the game or something.
