No reason to discount, we won't even touch the salary cap this year.

It's more a matter of showing respect to the organization and the desire to want to EARN a max by putting in some work for the city, than it is about the salary cap.

Good luck with that. If Buss and Co. are going to go in with that pitch to a 27 year old with career earnings of 2 Million, they might as well not even set up the meeting.

Exactly! This guy is young. Them youngin's don't give a rat's arse about showing respect. Show him the money. Show him the weather. Show him the city. Show him how you plan to win in LA. Other than that...he aint listening.

Nah homie...Laker fans been on him for a year or so now. I have not heard (or read rather) any negative comments on him. We been knew how good he was/can be for some time now.

He will leave Miami (since they will try to get Durant, and will hold back on offering a MAX deal to Whiteside), and Whiteside will go to Dallas or Portland with a max deal. He should go to Portland and grow with a young team.

The Cavs need to turn Love and Shump into Whiteside and Jae Crowder. I dont know how thats even possible but if this was my 2k franchise mode, I would get it done.

But seriously, the Blazers should take a look. He would be a great floor running post big to run with Lillard/McCollum/Aminu but I dont know how much I would give. Something about Whitesides game screams Roy Hibbert to me.

Old playoff team - go back to Miami

Older playoff team - go to the Spurs.

Young potential but not very good - go to the Lakers

Clueless dysfunction - go the the Knicks

Young potential with a rising playoff team - go to the Trail Blazers

Old playoff team getting worse - go to the Mavericks

If he wants the money, wants to be on a similarly aged team and to be a solid and improving Playoff team, there don't seem like there are many choices. Portland or the Celtics are about it. The Warrior will go after Durant first and then keep Barnes if that doesn't work out so it's a money issue.

A couple options you left out that offer better situations include the Bucks, Pacers and Suns. If I were a free agent I would seriously consider Indiana to team up with Paul George.

Is Paul George substantially more talented than Dame? I'd definitely say that Lillard is more accomplished offensive player and he is clearly one of the most liked players in the league. There are countless rave reviews of his leadership and how much his teammates enjoy playing with him. So I'm not sure what would make Indiana more desirable than Portland.

I see this as a 2 horse race between Portland (youth/potential) and Miami (comfort/lifestyle). There may be some bias in there, but if there is ever the perfect storm for Portland to nail a FA signing, this is it.

So let's see, should I resign with a team that not only wants me to take a smaller salary just to be able to TRY and sign another FA. Oh, and you want me to play AGAIN for a coach that hasn't shown me much respect.

Or

Should I sign with another team that's REALLY chasing me with max money and perhaps a staring role?

Any to question, wherever he feels is the best fit for him. Loyalty in today's NBA climate might be over rated.

I wouldn't say substantially more talented but including defense I would give PG the edge over Dame. Don't get me wrong because I think Portland is a great fit too, but I don't see what separates them from Milwaukee or Indy in terms of attracting Whiteside. Both offer equal talent levels and fit while also being in the East with an easier path in the playoffs. Honestly any of the three would be a great choice.

I want to see him in ORL next to Serge Ibaka. Forming what could possibly the best frontcourt duo in the NBA! Shot Block City! C'mon cheer for the underdog! Whiteside to ORL, yay!

Is that good or bad? Portland signed Hibbert to his max deal that the Pacers matched.... and then traded. Hibbert was awesome and then fell off a cliff...

Man, if you miss the mid-70s to low 80's final scores of the Deroit early 2000's championship teams, then you should definitely want a Whiteside and Ibaka duo.... 3pters were amazing when there was like 5 of them made a game!

For real, Orlando is my East team, I love the Magic, but dude.... Ibaka and Whiteside are a terrible combo. If I were the Mag, get a high scoring bigman. Overpay Portland for Leonard. Make Ibaka a C, use him to anchor your D and then bomb 3's and mid-range jumpers with everyone else. You can get to the ECF pretty quick with that formula. You can't beat Cle, but if LeBron gets hurt or they aren't firing 100%.... you never know.

meh, its bad. I see Whiteside as a player with no desire to be great but a guy that wants a huge payday than you will have to worry about him being a cancer like Boogie and half arseing it every other game. IDK he just screams like a guy who is always going to cause problems with getting suspended and not being a leader ever, but he will get 'leader' type money in FA. Sort of like a Lance Stephenson of Centers

He is a great piece for a contending team with a bunch of money, but to a team looking to make him the 2nd option which he will get paid like by a desperate team (LA). He seems very high risk to me for the money he is going to get. The Blazers seem to have a strong coach that can handle his big attitude so thats good, I just wish they had more veteran leaders on the team to keep him in check and focused.
