Re: Not In The Face - The Jeremy Lin Thread 3 + 1
We will find out where Lin will land soon enough. I have said from day 1 on this forum that Lin is worth anywhere from $12M to $17M a year. Some posters have said I was trolling hard and other nasty comments I won't repeat. I guess we will find out soon who is right and who is full of you know what. Many posters think Lin will resign for $5M to $7M per year lol.
Here is another rumor to chew on:
https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/status/747507423603265536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
For the record, Lin really like Hornets and playing with Kemba. However, Hornets putting all eggs into the Batum basket is pretty disturbing. If that guy deserves the max, Lin should be paid close to $20M per year as well.

Rubio and Bledsoe rumored to be on the trade market, so teams like Houston, Chicago, Bklyn, 76ers etc, could look there as well for starting PG.

I do not really see teams putting Lin as a first-order priority. Because if they do, they could and probably should have done it last year. I can see many treating him as second-order, like the Hornets may.

Last year Lin's reputation had been destroyed by Byron Scott, Kobe and the tanking Lakers additionally Lin thought he had a deal lined up in Dallas kibosh-ed by DeAndre Jordan. Some teams perhaps would not agree to the first year player exemption option and Cho did so thus won the sweepstakes instantly.
Lin's agent vetted three teams to meet at the starter's pistol time of midnight ET, those are 3 pretty motivated "second-order priority" teams willing to wait at his doorstep for the opening minute. Best hope is that Brossard isn't a "credible source" or that Lin's agent didn't feed him the news.

Re: Not In The Face - The Jeremy Lin Thread 3 + 1
bump from early May...
As we near decision time for Lin, just a friendly reminder about keeping this thread from turning into a discussion about where Lin fans want to see Lin sign other than Charlotte or gloating about Lin leaving Charlotte. Feel free to post news about his free agency, since that is obviously relevant. Please leave the posts wishing Lin to sign with another team or gloating about him leaving out of this thread. Those thoughts should be communicated on the board of that particular team, the General board or the Trades and Transactions board not here on the Hornets board. I'm sure we can find ways to discuss his free agency in this thread while staying within the lines what is acceptable for this board.
Thanks,
fatlever wrote:...Also, turning this thread or any other offseason threads into a blatant discussions about where Lin should sign other than with the Hornets will not be tolerated and will result in suspensions. There are just too many Lin fans here for us to allow this board or any subthreads on the board to become the home of Lin to Brooklyn or Lin to Dallas conversations. There are plenty of Lin dedicated sites on the Internet for that type of discussion. You can also make another attempt at a Lin free agency thread on the GB or you can go directly to the board of the new team you want Lin to sign with and start a discussion there. This is not the place for that type of conversation. All that will do is divide the board into Lin fans vs Hornets fans and that is not what we want to promote.
That is not to say that we cannot still have healthy debates that involve some of these topics, but it needs to be done in a manner that is respectful of the Hornets board and long-time Hornets fans.

This does discuss other teams who could use Lin but mostly discusses what Lin brings to a team with a lot of info about last season with hornets
Nice article.
In just situations in which he passed out to a teammate, that efficiency rose to 0.978 PPP (83rd percentile). That put him fifth among players with at least 315 possessions (Lin's number) and slightly ahead of Chris Paul. That's how good he was in the pick-and-roll.
This is frigging amazing! And we're talkin' 'bout DAJ/Griffin vs Biggie Al Gimmie Misser/Hawes the Flawed (along with a bit of Cody/Frank) here.
Thanks for the honesty.MorbidHEAT wrote:My dislike for Lin started during Linsanity. It was absurd. It's probably irrational dislike at this point, but man he gets on my nerves. He's been tearing us up though.

The Boxfish event he went to before the World Economic Forum conversation.
Some stuff from the WEF:
Well, you can't say he doesn't know how to make lemonade from lemons...JLin teaching Chinese school children American geography by drawing all the cities he's played for as he got moved from team to team

That tanking leading to bad rep was such an idiotic thing. And the DAJ thing was close to evil. But, hey, silver-lining! Blessing in disguise! Cap raise! Of course, they were smart not to sign the small long term offers last off season.

This thread may become a Lin appreciation thread. And there might be a sigh of relief from some, but not because Lin is leaving the team. But most Lin fans here are great, very reasonable. I'm not sure about Lee either coming back. Batum, Marv and maybe Al look very likely, likely and if they want him likely to come back so that's a big part of the core of last season. Lin as insurance and x-factor may not be a on the team, but its dynamic will be a changing one anyway and there will be a bit more continuity going into next season.

I didn't really mean the time. I just don't think he's so important that teams will go meet him in person the minute free agency starts.

Hornets "bracing" sounds a little extreme.

Re: Not In The Face - The Jeremy Lin Thread 3 + 1
Lin plays Pick & Roll better than most point guards.
He's good at pushing the transition offense.
He can drive to the basket and finish under the rim or dish it out.
What I like about him is his ability to read the defense and his court vision.
His 3 pointer number wasn't good last season, but judging from his career numbers, he probably sure will be better next season.
His defense improved. So did his handle.
In small ball era, those are needed by most teams.

Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

Just my opinion, there's should be rules already for the board, whenever the rules is not violated, anymore should be free to chat in the board, whether we like it or not.

Re: Not In The Face - The Jeremy Lin Thread 3 + 1
I'd wish him the best then. Personal stats, VORP, WS, WARS have all gone down fairly consistently over the years. He struggled to get the MLE last summer making his market < $5.5. Based upon the salary cap increase on the heels of another decline and being a year older, anything in excess of $7-8 would be a reach. I could, however, very easily see a deal for $10+ mil if the 2nd year is team option.
Many players will face a similar decision with teams wanting to maintain 2017 cap flexibility. If it were me I'd take the money no questions asked. "Starting" is temporary, as is the team if traded. The contract is certain.

That article you are referring to is straight trash. That writer is a moron and should not be doing any analysis. Lin getting $8M a year is a joke. In case people forgot, Lamb just got $7M per year.
Anyway, if 3-6 teams are lining up at midnight to meet Lin, I doubt any team would be dumb enough to offer low ball offers. Maybe some of the GMs in the league are as clueless as some of the posters, but we will find out soon enough. I am pretty sure there will be at least 20+ teams who would sign Lin at $8M per year now. Lin would be dumb even to consider such joke of an offer.
I live very close to Lin's hometown. The average home price in his hometown is like $2M+, and that's for a fix upper. He will need a chunk of change to buy a home here. Lin deserves to be paid and hopefully, he will finally get his market value finally.

In that case I hope his market is $20 in Orlando, Miami, or Boston. May exhaust their cap space but gotta get that on lock down.
