2016 Free Agency Thread

Post#1 » by codydaze » Tue Jun 28, 2016 8:45 pm

Figured we should have somewhere to talk about free agency starting Friday. From what I've seen we still have interest in Ryan Anderson, interest in Courney Lee and possibly Dion Waiters.

Personally I would rank our targets:
1. Conley (pipedream but worth a shot)
2. Kent Bazemore
3. Allen Crabbe
4. Courtney Lee
5. Ryan Anderson
6. Mario Chalmers (championship experience and played with Joerger last year)
7. Chandler Parons (will be expensive but I think he would be a good fit)
8. Lance Stephenson (played well under Joerger)
9. Rondo (fallback PG option)

Edit: because I forgot about Crabbe+Bazemore

No Waiters!!

I was just reading some stuff about summer league and saw that the W's got both N'Diaye and Walkup. I swear, if I like a player coming out of college is almost a guarantee they somehow end up with the Warriors. haha.

Lee, Lin, Delly, Crabbe, and Solomon Hill better be on the list for the Kings.

Lance could be an interesting target if they don't bring Rondo back. With Rondo and you've just cut off a lot of what Stephenson will bring to a team.

Dion Waiters, as a player, would be a fine fit. To my eye he reigned in his shot selection quite a bit in OKC. His days in CLE showed he can score when given an opportunity and a system that plays to his strengths. The guy is a decent defender to boot. I wouldn't pay him $15m per year, but I'd be more than comfortable replacing Marco's minutes with Waiters.

God it may be smart for the Kings to avoid long term deals this off-season if guys like Waiters are all they can get . Take another crack at it next off season.

I forgot all about Allen Crabbe, he would definitely be in my top three targets. Not too high on Delly but I think Lin would be a fine option as well.

+1 to Solomon Hill. He's the kind of guy the Kings would actually have a shot at that might be worth overpaying a bit. He's young, has great potential as a defensive wing. Not a great 3p shooter yet but is a good FT shooter, which means there's potential. I could see Joerger potentially molding a guy like Hill into a plus wing defender, at the very least.

Would prefer for the Kings to go after youth this off season and try to avoid overpaying older veterans. Guys like Courtney Lee sound great if everything works out according to plan, but I try to look at it from the perspective of the worst case scenario. What happens if we give a 31 year old Courtney Lee a 4 year/$60 million deal, miss the playoffs, and then trade DeMarcus and rebuild? If Lee falls off at all skill-wise, that all of a sudden becomes a bit of an albatross contract for a rebuilding young team, not to mention a whole lot less minutes for developing young talent. I would much prefer Evan Fournier, Kent Bazemore, or maybe Allen Crabbe to Lee in theory, although I'm not quite as sold on Allen Crabbe as some of you might be.

Jeremy Lin as first guard off the bench backing up both PG and SG would be a good fit.

Well, I'm firmly in the camp that Lee will have to have some serious good luck to get 14 a year. Still, he's a perfect fit and he's had success under Joerger before. The Kings have a ton of youth now in case of a rebuild and counting what they get out of Cuz in that scenario the price for Lee would be well spent considering the benefits now and cap space wouldn't be a huge asset for the Kings anyway if they rebuild. Cap space is an asset to add players like Lee, I say use it or lose it. This isn't the time to be concerned about overpaying on perfect fit types.

Michael Scotto must be the same guy who claimed that we offered 90 million to Wes Matthews.

"Per league sources"

His defense is pretty bad still right?

Conley is definitely a long shot but Vlade should see if there's any interest since we have Joerger. Not interested in Waiters or Stephenson. Don't think either are worth the risk. 1 of Bazemore, Crabbe, Marvin Williams, Lee, Hill and Parsons plus 1 of Delly, Chalmers and Lin would be pretty good. I'd target Marvin Williams over Anderson. Williams will probably be quite a bit cheaper and isn't a defensive liability.

I think we might be used as the agent boogeyman unfortunately maybe because of our rep. Last summer we were linked to names Vlade denied

Yeah I think we need to take media reports of who we are "looking at" or "interested in" with a grain of salt. We can debate if we like the fit but getting worked up over a decision should wait til someone is actually signed.

It'd be good but seems like he's looking for and would land a starting spot. Who would start tho?

Good to hear. Man, I really hope the Kings get their targets this year. Vlade always seems to start off in the right direction, but his plan B's are scary! Vlade has an upper hand in the form of a decent sign and trade package involving Kosta and/or Ben. He better use it if he has to.
