Yeah, pretty much. I don't wanna say that he's entirely responsible.....but when Ambromavic (spelling) bought Cheslea, he just sunk hundreds of millions for like a 3-year period. It really inflated the market IMO. It also started this billionaires "arms race".

You used to have teams with 4-5 top players. Maybe 6 if they were really good....but typically it was less. After Chelsea came along, you start seeing these teams where the bench is practically an all-star team in itself. Supply and demand baby. Suddenly that "8-mil player" can demand 12 to 15. And so on.

I'd say the TV revenue....the US becoming a major market over the last 20 years has also been a huge factor. These leagues are making so much money, it's nuts.

I'd say Mane for 30mn is a lot. We've been making Southampton richer every year in the last 3 seasons and the players are not worth the money we paid (Besides Clyne). We still ended up below them at no. 8.

It's very Liverpool of these days. Overpay for a decent talent, then wonder why we finish 6-8 in the league table....do the same the next summer, rinse-repeat.

Same people defending this are largely the same people who defended Benteke last summer.

I for one am glad that we are holding strong on this. Benteke is a good player, but just doesn't fit Klopps style. No reason for us to get peanuts for him. The more $$ we get back, the more we can spend on other players.

It's incredible business if Liverpool sell Benteke for almost as much as they bought him, given his struggles. £31.5m is only £1m short of the fee you paid, I believe. He would be a good fit at Palace though, I still believe in Bentekkers.

Exactly. He's a terrible fit under Rodgers or Klopp but a godsend for Palace. Given that everyone involved is aware of all this, it makes sense that the fee doesn't drop much.

Much like the NBA free agent contract market, i'm not sure what qualifies as over-payment in transfer fees anymore. We're in a confusing transitional period.

Benteke and De Bruyne are in the same class, (overrated AF) lol
