And then you remember it's the same team as last year with 3 new rookies.

Getting rid of cancer Morris is like bringing a superstar
Since our core is young, Booker/Warren/Len will hopefully continue to grow and improve.

When Bledsoe, Knight, Warren, Chandler all played we were 10 wins, 14 losses.

with Morris cancer and without 3 rookies and without Booker being our franchise player.
I'm not saying rookies will help us win 15 more games. But I guess they will be more helpful than Morris.

Personally, i couldn't care less what our record is next year. As long as guys like Booker/Warren/Goodwin/Len/Bender/Chriss, and to a lesser extent Knight/Bledsoe, develop. There is nothing outside of Lebron/Durant who will make us the least bit relevent. So for us, like many teams, its about building for the years that follow.
I know there will be many complaining about yet another year missing the playoffs, and when we are 10/25 the same will be calling for Watson/McD's head. I really dont care. Next year is about youth, something we are FINALLY working with. Something that should have been done 2 years ago, and something that i'm excited about.

I'd love to be talking about Bender taking over the starting PF spot (by merit) in Feb next year, similar to what Booker did at SG.

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread (Post Draft)
Not the Suns but reading today that OKC and Durant would like to play with Al Horford
I think for the Hawks - a sign and trade for Kanter might be a better option than getting nothing. Might even have to give up the PG Payne or Roberson. Hmm, would Sam Presti give up Roberson and Kanter for Horford. I think he does with Olapadipo on the roster
A front line of Horford, Durant and Steven Adams would be pretty damn good and make OKC pretty formidable
Back to the Suns. nothing stupid, nothing really long term (unless its Durant).

I agree with much of this, except the bolded part. Did we not trade Scola for Plumlee and a pick that year? Did we not trade Gortat for a pick? Did we not trade vet Dudley for rookie contract Bledsoe? McD started with a bare cupboard and has done the best he could to acquire youth. From my perspective, it's been a consistent, youth-centric rebuild. The only difference is that the FO wouldn't admit it to the fans.
If you were paying attention to the FO's actions rather than their words, you would know this. But I recall so many people being homers about this team - the great Goran, how could we ever trade him?
IMO.

I totally agree with this. No stupid deals like when smartly, they let Amare walked but signed a bunch of "guys" to long term deals. Its not my money but I would rather sign West for one year 15m than Teletovic, two years 22m. Barnes seems like he is going to get way too much for a guy who has been the 4th wheel. Like Aldrich makes sense if you find a taker for Chandler - and I actually think they will. Same with Knight. Those two deals are going to look good tomorrow morning at 6am

I think the board is mostly in agreement for the first time in a long time. The truth of it is that our roster is not that great, but the free agents that are attainable aren't that big of an upgrade at any position. When you consider the contracts these players will be getting and that they would only be slight upgrades to our roster it only makes sense to abstain from FA spending and allow our young players to grow. We need to have a high pick again next year if possible, and if we don't that means that our young guys are actually good.

Tim Bontempts of the Washington Post is reporting that the Knicks are signing Noah for $18M/yr. That is freakin' insanity (of the highest order! /Stephen A.)

I guess we were already projecting this. Chandler's contract will seem as a bargain as these crazy deals pile up.

Good call... Personal connection, prior trading history, defensive need, competitive team, cap space. We could deal straight up for Henson or Monroe or for a future pick. Throw in poster fav Goodwin for good measure, and to avoid the eventual release. I think for a pick makes most sense. Sign that Cole kid along with DWill and call it a done day. Not like anything better can happen, unless of course, McMully can pull a rabbit. Atleast these moves are relatively low risk and harmless.
What ? Me Worry ?

Man, that's creepy. I can't believe they told him where they were going.....He is a serious fanatic, his room was a shrine.
The dude has like 800,000 subscribers on Youtube and is a pretty well-known Suns fan so I guess that's why they weren't worried he was going to be some freak
I guess.

Who is the most under the radar small forward 3&D guy in the league?
And I've already looked at Lance Stephenson, and his advanced stats show he's not a particularly good defensive player.
I'm talking someone who is a free agent or possibly someone who may be on the end of a bench who hasn't been able to show his true worth.
Lance Stephenson
I guess you didn't read my whole post? Looks like I may have to go for him (in that mock offseason thing) because I can't figure anyone else.
Our two Mods are crackheads. I can't believe it. A HELL NO TO LANCE! You guys can't be serious.

I think a three-way makes sense, with either Henson or Monroe going to a third team. I'd be ecstatic to get either a distant first or swap rights, but I'd be just fine with a couple second rounders, frankly. We simply don't need him.
Lowe called Tyson's contract an albatross in his latest article, but if Noah's getting $18mil per, Tyson's a freaking bargain. Even at 34, he's a much better player than John Henson.

Henson getting 11m
Noah around 18m
Chandler at 13m
I think Tyson Chandler will have a market to say the least. On this website, they had a blurb about the Warriors not being happy with Bogut - if Horford goes to OKC (which makes a lot of sense for Al) and the Warriors want to upgrade the Center position, I know I have been writing it but Chandler for Bogut seems like an upgrade for GSW while giving the Suns long term cap space and an expiring Bogut after this season.
But I do agree that a lot of the posters are on the same page: play the young guys, don't go crazy in free agency with long term deals (even Teletovic for 3 years to me is a bad deal, I would rather have Leuer on a short term deal, like one year)

Williams would be a good stop-gap target. I'd say we could offer him a 2-3 year deal maybe 12mil per season. Anything more is really a vast overpay. But he could play PF and some SF too.
I loved him at AZ, but he is not the guy we need. I looked at his numbers the other day. If we could get him on the cheap for one season, or just to reach the floor, MAYBE, but I wouldn't sign him for more than one season, maybe a team option for a second.
I think a two year deal would be pretty fair. He's still only 25, just a year older than Harrison Barnes. I think DWill actually played more confidently last season and I could see him possibly emerging into a capable player this year.

I guess the big question is....since he has always been much more effective at PF, and we are probably in more need of a defensive stopper at SF, so we can possibly unload Tucker (though I wouldn't mind keeping him either, at least as bench/glue guy off then bench and backup for injuries), and we plan to sign Mirza, is he worth adding, or if we added another PF would you prefer a guy like David West?

SunsBlood23 wrote:bwgood77 wrote:AtheJ415 wrote:Harden's a beast. Yes, his D sucks, he's a poor leader, and he's horribly immature, but offensively he's a juggernaut, and he can defend WHEN HE WANTS TO. That is key. Because it means you can work with something as opposed to having no capability of playing D. He just loses his guy off the ball constantly, which is a focus thing. Lightening the load for him on offense would likely make him a better defender, combined with surrounding him with people who will make him accountable. Houston's problem has been having no leaders.
I wouldn't pick Klay over him. I love Butler but probably not him either. That would be a tough call for me.
That said, anybody saying we should dump Booker for him is crazy imo. You have to consider the age of our team. Getting Harden who is 6 years older than Booker shortens our window. You'd be banking on getting a guy in FA who wants to play with Harden, and I'm not sure many guys want to now that he's adopted such a ball-dominant style. Regardless, Houston wouldn't trade him so why discuss it?
Yeah, we need to forget those guys. We are young and we need to develop these guys and grow. Maybe get another high pick and a year or two down the road, go after good free agents. Those guys are not going to be available for what we have, especially if Booker and our rookies are off the table, which they should be.
Just curious, let's say we play really well and the team clicks, Bender and Chriss play very well and we make the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed, what big free agents do you think would take a serious look at us and what position would you be looking to fill? I ask this cause I don't want a SG, PF, or C with Booker, Bender, Chriss, and Len.
We'd probably have to look at a list of them for next year before answering this, but it's tough, anyone any good is probably 8 or 9 years deep into the league, because anyone any good younger that is a free agent is going to be restricted unless they were drafted in the 2nd round.
