Mock Pistons Offseason
So guys I know im still fairly new here but i signed up for the Pistons spot in the Mock Offseason on the T&T forum
So far with my offseason i have
Let go of these players with cap holds/team options: Steve Blake/Anthony Tolliver/Joel Anthony/Lorenzo Brown/Cameron Bairstow
QO to Andre Drummond
Accepted Hillard's option
Before Day 1 of FA we let teams know that Meeks was available
Talked trades with Phoenix(Bullock for Goodwin) and Cavaliers(Cap Space or maybe Meeks/2nd for Frye)
Day 1 FA rolled around so here were my offers:
Offered a deal to Durant but he turned Detroit down(oh well i had to at least try)
Offered a 2 year 30 Million dollar deal to Dirk Nowitzki(15 per with PO in year 2)
Offered a 4 year 48 Million dollar contract to Mareese Speights( 10 per first 2 years 14 per last 2 with TO in year 4)
Offered a 3 year 9 Million dollar contract to Donald Sloan(3 per no options)
Offered a 1 year vet minimum deal to Anderson Varejao
Offered a 4 year 24 million dollar contract to Seth Curry(6 per with TO in year 4)
After day 1:
Still looking at trading Meeks
Mareese Speights accepted our contract to join the team
Donald Sloan accepted our contract to join the team
Waiting to hear back from Dirk/Curry/Varejao(if Dirk or Curry sign it will be after Meeks is traded)
I will keep you all informed

I'm glad you're having a good time, but that Speights deal makes me vomit. That dude is a chucking bum. In less than a year, Ellenson will be the better player, and we're stuck with him for 3 years?

My reasoning for it is in a year Morris/Baynes/KCP will all be FA. KCP would be the main focus and even if Ellenson is ready to step up having by then we still would need a backup bigman. 10 million for a backup is gonna be happening soon and we would be paying that to Speights. Year 3 he would make a little more but we have a option for him at the end of the year.

Nobody actually has said anything about Nowitzki. Now if you think about it, if Nowitzki leaves, where would he go to try to contend? Would Williams come too? All interesting questions but I don't think he'd leave. I want to see what Dallas does this offseason.

I think Nowitzki would be a great fit here(yes in this mock offseason Baynes would have to be traded but it would be worth it)
Nowitzki here though would be a good fit though and would help Ellenson out alot

Morris is under contract for 3 more seasons at about 5 mil per season.
KCP will be a restricted free agent and cannot possibly leave... even if he takes the QO, we'll have him for two years from now.
Baynes will indeed have a player option after next year and likely will exercise it, as he's underpaid in this new market.
This team has only the slightest need for Speights, and it's for this year only if Ellenson develops at all.

Also, you can't do a 10/10/14/14 TO contract structure. It's not allowed by the current CBA, I don't think. You can do increasing, flat, or declining contracts, but there are certain percentages that must be followed.

I was misinformed on Morris deal for some reason so my bad but even if Ellenson develops well can he play center or is he too soft to bang with the big guys. I think Speights would be a solid addition being able to help at both PF/C

Re: Mock Pistons Offseason
I agree that Speights could be useful as a 4th big this season while Ellenson works on his game and NBA body... it's the four year deal and the cost that's making me dislike it. I know it's going to be a crazy summer... I've been calling it the Summer of Stupid for a while now, but if anyone gives Mo Buckets 4/48 this summer I'll be truly shocked.

To me it is essentially a 3 year deal where he can help for 2 years and then possibly be traded in year 3 to a team liking that he could provide cap relief with the team option. I think Ellenson is gonna need a year to be valuable to helping our team and in year 2 he can take over backup PF duties while Speights is insurance if Baynes leaves

Don't let the Cavs push you around. A trade is their only option to add talent, they absolutely shouldn't GET a 2nd and Meeks.

Well I been kind of showing interest in Frye and have been vocal on moving Meeks. Frye essentially has more value then Meeks so if having to add a 2nd to get someone who fits the team more(Stretch 4 who can play 5) for a guy who is buried on the depth chart it might not be a bad deal

Update since i was in NFL FA mode when thinking about the contract i let the guy know about how i **** up the deal so Speights is still a FA and Pistons got cap room back
So far without a Meeks trade we have 17 million in cap space and have signed Donald Sloan for 3 years 9 Million

Re: Mock Pistons Offseason
I rescended the offer to Seth Curry with signing Sloan
17 million but could clear up more space with potential Meeks and Baynes trades
Dirk offer is still on the table and have sent out feelers to Wade(Miami lost Whiteside to LAL and offered him a 3 year 45 mil deal).
Our feelers to Wade is that if Dirk agreed to sign the 1 & 1 we offered that if Wade wanted to join on the same contract as him(making the same amount as what Miami offered) on a 1 & 1 deal. We have let him know we would have to clear out some space to fit him here but we would keep the core together while adding 2 All Star players who could put us as #1 or #2 in the East.

Tom Gores would fire you for the epic disaster that was the Speights offer and the foolish pursuit of Dirk & Wade when Orlando wanted to take Meeks so you could get Horford
Gores lost faith and you lost your job!
