That would make more conventional sense even though he is lacking in bulk and arguably wingspan for that particular position. It may be unrealistic, but I remain hopeful for him to transition more to the 3 rather than the 5. Who knows? Maybe he can be a jack-of-all-trades in the frontcourt.

His biggest upside scenario would definitely involve being at the 3 (with some development), that's what screamed out to me when I saw his scouting vids. I don't think it's unrealistic, but it is a hopeful/optimistic projection for sure.

McCaw Another Missed Target Tearing Up Summer League

Post#404 » by Ranma » Fri Jul 15, 2016 2:48 am

Sounds like Patrick McCaw, whom we had in for a workout along with his Runnin' Rebel teammate Stephen Zimmerman, is what C.J. Wilcox was supposed to be. It's a shame we didn't have the money or foresight to buy a 2nd-round pick to take him like Golden State did instead of spending such resources on working to dump Wilcox in order to save salary cap space. Or maybe...I don't know...draft him 33rd overall instead of trading down.

Yes, I know it's only summer league, but McCaw is already showing more than Wilcox ever did despite the fact that Wilcox was older when he was drafted and has more pro experience. To be fair, I has hoping to draft Bembry 25th overall, but when that fell through, my preference was to go after Furkan Korkmaz instead, then aim for Brice Johnson at 33rd overall, and buying an early 2nd-rounder when word leaked out that one was available for sale. Patrick McCaw was certainly at the top of my list of top prospects available in the 2nd round.

If we weren't preemptively handcuffed to dump Wilcox, we could have used that cash to instead come away with Korkmaz, Johnson, and McCaw. This scenario was quite possible and definitely preferable to what we actually came away with. The only question mark was whether Brice would be available at 33rd overall but even if he were taken before then, we'd still come away with Korkmaz, McCaw, and Michineau/Stone.
