I guess they think they'd overwhelm everyone athletically with horford/oladipo additions.

Horford really struggled getting out to gu are the perimeter in the cleveland series. He's a much better passer than ibaka but relactively equal shooters.

How the heck do they afford westbrook, durant, oladipo, horford, adams after next year though.. maybe letting westbrook leave?? I'm lost here.

Also, who is willing to take on kanter?

Doable with Bird rights if KD and Horford signed long-term and Russ took a similar contract. My guess is they would let Roberson walk at that point.

Yea but this is a small market team. This payroll would probably be the highest in the league. Those are virtually all max deals

I think they'd be able to keep him, I really think he's gonna be fairly cheap.

Worry about next season next season. I will admit to having looked at the numbers and I expect just Russ, KD, Oladipo, Roberson, Sabonis, Payne, Huestis and Adams would put them at the luxury tax line. I guess if Payne takes a big jump in year two they could roll the dice and let Russ walk. They could also trade Horford, in an off-season where the cap is expected to jump another $16M for rookie scale contracts. So I guess plan A could be that Payne and Sabonis both develop enough to be starters then trade Horford for some cheap quality depth.

As for taking Kanter there are so many teams with the cap space that there are a lot of options. After a few teams miss out on their unrealistic FA targets they will be looking for ways to improve and try to be a first round exit and Kanter will be a option for them. Minny, NOLA, Houston, Dallas, Portland, LAL, Milwaukee, NYK, Boston, etc.

There will also be a new CBA next season. So the luxury tax system could completely change.

This is a good point. No one knows how much--or if--the tax system changes, but you can't let the parameters of the current CBA dictate future planning too heavily. You shouldn't spend recklessly, but you also shouldn't compromise a contender to address future uncertainties.

I think the best path is to lock up talented players at remotely reasonable deals, then if the new CBA dictates that moves be made, there will always be a trade market for those players.

Oladipo is and very, very, nice piece as well. And to be quite honest those two players eclipse what Ibaka brings to the table these days. But Presti knows what he is doing and it's no accident he continues to have ties to the Northwest.

But let me tell you, Domas Sabonis is going to wear guys out in the paint. He has sensational footwork, an awesome lefty hook, very solid right hook can hit the college 3 at a decent clip although he didn't take many. He has great court awareness and like his pops can thread the needle with a pass. But mostly the kids motor doesn't stop. He simply out works the opponent.

He and Adams will be sending guys to the locker room on stretchers. Great move by Presti to lure the carrot for KD to re-sign.

I'm sure you'll be applauding The Genius after he makes his Westbrook tank trade.

If it happens it happens, and I'm sure plenty of people will be standing by applauding the sinking ship.

just the opposite. it augers well for okc that kd will stay. there was no way for okc to add a quality star-level player to take that one last step unless they gave up quality. i really think this is a big move where presti talked to "a few players" about it and that means kd/rw gave the ok, which means kd stays. if this was about possibly/probably losing kd, it would have occurred deep into FA , not this early, because you fight to keep kd until the very last minute.

i know in the back of everyone's mind is the harden trade, but they still had rw and kd.

Nah, when you dump core championship level guys for rookies and youth it's never a good sign. Durant is in win now mode.

I think they should move westbrook right now. Figure out which places he's willing to sign with long term and get some value immediately becuase this team still has some solid young pieces.

That harden fiasco will haunt this franchise for the next 30 years. They're about to learn how difficult it really is to compete as a small market.

I didn't perceive that as trolling, as an outside looking in. How are users supposed to talk about life after KD right now for this team if this is the response it gets?
