it could be a good team but it sure won't be deep. Have to dump too many players to get it done

Portland can easily get the cap-space though

I have merged yet another thread which was started into this one since this is where Howard and PArsons conversation has been going on throughout the night. Since these are the only two targets we've been linked to (let's all take a moment for a lololololololol on Austin Rivers), there isn't much need to start a separate, new thread for the same two players. Should a miracle happen and we sign a major free agent of their calibre and it's official, then we'll start new threads for those players.

We've already got three, four threads on the off-season and free agency alone which weren't strictly necessary. Let's try to minimize the clutter some.

If we renounce Harkless and Leonard, trade Ed Davis, and sign parsons to his max that would leave us about 23 - 23.5 mil under the cap.

If we renounce Leonard and trade Ed Davis, Vonleh, Connaughton, and release Montero & Alexander we would be left with about 19.7 mil in cap space.

Option #2 would leave us with

Lillard
Parsons
Dwight
Aminu
McCollum
Plumlee
Crabbe
Harkless
Layman

Parsons could really build a lot of credibility of he took 2-4 mil less than the max.

Ya, if him or dwight took a small pay cut and we traded Vonleh I'm pretty sure we could afford to get my boy Jon Leuer to help with our depth :)

I don't think there's a chance he does that.

Is Pau Gasol and Austin Rivers "Plan B" if Dwight doesn't work out?

I can't find one article yet that shows Dwight has any interest in PDX, has there been any indication that he will even meet with them?
I never thought I’d lead the NBA in rebounding, but I got a lot of help from my team-mates – they did a lot of missing.

Nothing yet. Probably anything with Dwight hangs on Parsons.

there is one report (maybe more) that he'll meet with a total of 4 teams; two are Atlanta & Boston, the other are unnamed. One of those could be Portland

I get the cynicism considering who the target is. Further, if you're real cynical you might think this Portland-going-after-both-Parsons-and-Howard rumor has simply been floated as ass-cover for the Blazer front office if they fail..."hey, we swung for the fences, what else could we do?"

either way, two things are pretty obvious: one is that this is a significant, needle moving idea, no matter how realistic or how likely the front office thought it was to succeed. The other thing is it seems Chandler Parson is the linchpin of this entire plan. Get him and maybe the Blazers can parlay that into DH. Fail to get Parsons, then it's back to the drawing board.

Exactly. Again, I don't think it was any coincidence that this plan "leaked" right before Parsons entered his meeting with Memphis. It could also smack of a bit of desperation on the Blazers part feeling they may be losing Parsons to Memphis and wanting to make their plan clear to everyone to possibly get Dwight and Chandler to talk if they aren't already for some reason.

Side note, I don't really know what Memphis has to offer? That team is aging like crazy and no one can stay healthy. He might be friends with Conley, but like.... what else does that team have? Gasol is great but he's getting into the range where he's injured every year. ZBo is getting ancient.

Portland needs at least one bruiser or banger in the middle. Howard will certainly rebound and block shots but if he refuses to meet with PDX or does not like their pitch I would be calling Biyombo's agent asap.

Mozgov got 16 million/year, Biyombo is very likely to get more. I can see the Blazers dumping a bunch of players to sign Parsons & Howard; I can't see them doing the same for Parsons and Biyombo. And if Parsons goes elsewhere, it might completely change the way management views the team. Biyombo and his contract might not fit

I do think it's revealing that Olshey would be willing to dump Meyers, Harkless, Henderson, maybe Crabbe, and one of Davis or Aminu (probably) in order to restructure the team. That's taking a huge bite out of the chemistry that Olshey spent so much time talking about. I'd wonder who is pushing the Parsons/Howard idea the most, Olshey or Paul Allen

in an unrelated note....Jerryd Bayless got 9 million/year.... :o

I say if Howard says no and Parsons says yes, resign Crabbe and go after Terrence Jones or Fournier. Go young and quick and run everyone out of the gym each game

If the team strikes out with Howard, how about Larry Sanders as our rim protector?

If we strike out on Howard I want to see Portland in every unbalanced trade discussion with teams needing cap space not named okc

I am not sure we will have to get rid of that much room.

20 per yr might be enough, I didn't hear anyome offer DH 24, only that he wants it.

Plus we offered Parsons a "near max" and it might give us a little wiggle room to keep one player in addition to Crabbe and Aminu/Vonleh.
