The difference in shooting is pretty large. It shows in their efficiency - Turner had only had 2 seasons with a TS% above 50% and even those were barely above. Defensively, Turner is also the worst of the 3 and there's a big gap between him and a healthy Batum. He is also more of a ball-stopper. Creates off the dribble for a pull-up mid-range jumper or a pass if it's there.

No idea why you think he has the most upside. I guess he does if he improves his shooting, but at this point that's highly unlikely.

Clearly the worst player of these three.

Most upside to me meaning most likely to improve and most room to grow before hitting ceiling. Right now he is the worst of the 3, but he's also by FAR the cheapest. So what I'm arguing is value for the contract, not who's the best player. I'd rather pay Turner 70 than Batum 120 or Parsons 95.

Wow. I'm actually happy the Wolves are largely sitting out the first day of this spend-fest. A whole new flock of albatross contracts have already been created today.

Portland knows that Evan Turner isn't good, right?

He really needs the ball to be effective and DLill is super ball dominant.
I thought Parsons would have great over there.

He isn't really though. Last season was due to having pretty much no other options unless CJ was on the floor, in which Dame would play off the ball some.

Turner has missed 7 games in 6 years. Fans don't realize health issue are a big factor.

I watched every Celtic game for the last 8 years. Evan Turner was my least favorite player on the team last year.

Something about him just rubbed me the wrong way.
First he took all the minutes our rookies couldve had to develop.
He turns the ball over, he tries to go behind the back and be fancy.
He cant shoot outside of 12 ft.
He hogs the ball.
Brad Stevens loved him for some reason, and gave him alot to of minutes. Im so glad hes gone. The fact that hes getting 70 million just is baffling.

Honestly, I think ET is a better version of Livingston. His fit in Portland is a bit odd though. Certainly wouldn't give him that much, but on the right team he's a good player.

I think in theory it works. People look at Damian and think he needs the ball in his hands because last season there was virtually no one else to do so. He used to share playmaking duties with Batum, and the ball would typically end up in Aldridge's hands. Turner could work in the Batum role, the problem is he can't shoot threes.

The contract is big, and will be big after the next cap jump, but this is hardly toxic given some of the numbers we are going to be seeing from now on.

People need to stop freaking out over EVERY contract. We knew for years this was coming. I do have a few concerns over ET with his fit and shooting ability but the contract wont look that bad soon enough for his caliber of player.

That's not the only skill needed in basketball.

The Blazers have plenty of floor spacing and Turner has a bunch of useful skills otherwise. He has a good midrange game and is a great point forward in the Shaun Livingston role, still absolutely insane that he is getting nearly 19 mil per year but I think its better hann paying Parsons more. I think ultimately he's a 4th or 5th starter/6th man type of player.

I agree that he has other skills, he seems to be a good playmaker and ballhandler.

But do the really need that? They have enough guys to create with Lilliard and McCollum, or will their fresh 18 M signing lead the bench unit? I don't see them coexisting.

They needed a playmaker, not just a ball handler. Lillard/McCollum/the Trailblazers had atrocious shot selection. This may help. Turner and to a lesser extent Plumlee can provide good passing to the dynamic shooters.

Eh, Portland's already been down that road. He was so god-awful his last couple years here. All of a sudden actually giving a s*** in a contract year doesn't impress me. I hope he doesn't go back to being Portland Batum for the Hornets.

Good for him. I'm glad we are not paying him that much- I would've gone as high as 10 and that's it but good for him. He was good for us and really became relevant again in Boston . He needs to give Brad 1/2 that check though for getting him PAID !

To be fair.. neither could Batum his last year here. It's too much for Turner... IMO he should have been going for 14-15 mil a year. At 15.8 to start, it's not sooo terrible. I just don't understand where the Blazers go from here. Their payroll is screwed going forward. I don't know what to think. I'd still like to go after Biyombo...

Honestly don't really know at this point. Feels like the Blazers need to burn it down. If they are going to have no shot at FAs they need to start over, and trade everything for tons of first round picks and prospects.
