That's not the only skill needed in basketball.

The Blazers have plenty of floor spacing and Turner has a bunch of useful skills otherwise. He has a good midrange game and is a great point forward in the Shaun Livingston role, still absolutely insane that he is getting nearly 19 mil per year but I think its better hann paying Parsons more. I think ultimately he's a 4th or 5th starter/6th man type of player.

I agree that he has other skills, he seems to be a good playmaker and ballhandler.

But do the really need that? They have enough guys to create with Lilliard and McCollum, or will their fresh 18 M signing lead the bench unit? I don't see them coexisting.

They needed a playmaker, not just a ball handler. Lillard/McCollum/the Trailblazers had atrocious shot selection. This may help. Turner and to a lesser extent Plumlee can provide good passing to the dynamic shooters.

It really is pretty damn bad. I'm jumping firmly on the trade everyone, burn it down and restart bandwagon. I love Lillard and McCollum, but they were 4 year players who are already in their mid 20's... I would be looking at restarting in 2017 and trading them for boatloads of prospects and picks. If Portland couldn't attract any good FA's with it's current roster and salary situation, than they need to burn it down and hope for a superstar in the draft, and just 76er themselves. They're beelining straight towards Joe Johnson era Hawks mediocrity.

They were pegged for a bottom 5 season last year and made the playoffs easily enough. No team would "tear it down" in their position because there is little chance you even land a duo like Lillard/McCollum.

Lol this thread is funny. The cap is going waaaay up its a little of a overpay but not the way you guy are reacting lol. I like it much better then Parsons. And he's still a young player.

I suspect Evans may well prosper in Portland.

I get the cap difference. For the past years what he got is equivalent to 11-12 mil per year, so still significantly overpaid. Turner is a comparable player to Lin with a very uncomparable contract.

I get that... but if they extend McCollum for a big deal.. they will probably end up in the luxury tax, and for what.... complete mediocrity?

Even after those big contracts I didn't think he would even get close to 15M. More like 4/50m ish... which would be fairer tbh

These guys just finished their first year playing alongside one another extensively. Who knows what may happen. The Grizzlies have been competitive in the west for a long time now, beating teams like the Thunder and Clippers and teams generally considered superior in talent. They made the WCF, etc.

You bank on improvements from within and through chemistry. If your goal is to tank and land the next LeBron... Good luck, you may be waiting a lifetime before your team is so fortunate. Much better off building around what you have and making smart offseason decisions (admittedly, The Turner contract is questionable).

The cap explodes again next season. No need to worry about the tax.

Haven you considered them selling high on CJ? It would make sense. I get that he's well liked in Portland and a hell of a talent, but if you could trade him as part of a package to get a legit difference making big, wouldn't you? Having both him and Lillard together does come with some redundancy even if they did do a good job of figuring out how to play together. Use him to spread the talent a bit, then this signing makes a lot more sense.

There will be when they extend CJ. Ya know, next year when the cap explodes.

Even with the new cap escalation, this is still a terrible deal for Portland. Granted we know all signings can't be compared to prior years, but I think the Jefferson, Lin are a couple of the better ones announced today.

All you guys acting like you are shocked with this contract have not watched a lot of C's games this last season. ET is a great player. The Celtics will miss his game more than you think.

The cap is going up next year by about the size of CJ's max. There's no way signing him puts you in the tax, even after paying Turner a stupid amount of money.
